It sure is a tough act to follow, kudos to Ashie for a great run, a run that saved Jerry, yes, you saved him Ashie.

So, do we think the 'regular' lineup today?

I was in and out yesterday so didn't get to hear a lot of the tidbity stuff. Was Castillo rested cause he was hurting? Cause Jerry likes Cora's "experience" against Halladay? Because Castillo found Harry Potter's invisibility cloak?

Sorta a big game today, kinda. Not so much because you don't want to lose to the Phillies and give anyone the idea that the Mets can't hang with them in the division or giving up first place, but I want to see how the offense/team responds to yesterday.

Getting shut down by a good pitcher is nothing to be ashamed of, and hopefully they bounce back and resume their hot hitting as they've been doing. We've seen some signs of this in my opinion. They've faced some pitchers that did well, and then did wake up and hit the bullpen. Hopefully Jamie Moyer looks like me pitching out there after Halladay yesterday, and they clobber him. I'm looking forward to Miller and Morgan having to say nice things about the Mets.

NewYorkMets #Mets lineup tonight @ Philly:

Matthews, Jr.-CF,
Castillo-2B,
Reyes-SS,
Bay-LF,
Wright-3B,
Tatis-1B,
Francoeur-RF,
Barajas-C,
Santana-LHP

Sadly..I was right. We knew it was only a matter of time before Tatis got a start for Ike against "tough" lefty. and

Matthews..you know..he's got that experience factor going for him. Leading off, he's a great table setter. As in, he should be bussing tables somewhere.

The substitutes are probably both solid moves. Pagan's pretty hot, and I'd like to keep him in, but they've got to work Matthews in, and this may be the spot to do it.

Frenchy probably doesn't like hitting behind Tatis, but that's not much to bitch about. I'd like to see Catillo hitting first, but it's not happening.

Why because maybe GMJ can get a hit off the slow throwing Moyer? Tatis is 8/22 apparently off him, which I guess is okay, but rather either of these guys got their game against the Reds than the Phillies.

I'd rather Castillo leading off too, in general, but it doesn't seem like something that will ever happen.

GMJR is 7/23, 2HR but hasn't faced him in 4 years.

Pagan is 1/6.

Yeah, sure, why not? Those are good numbers. (I certainly think .363 is better than OK.) Sometimes, I think, managers like to throsw veteran guile against veteran guile.

I certainly hear you about the Reds.

Guys with patience and a good sense of the strike zone will absolutely hammer Moyer. Pagan has little of the first, and not much of the latter. And, unfortunately, t'was a different (bigger, with more fast-twitch, presumably) Sargelet that did whatever damage he's got on his tab against Loopy. If we had a Castillo-type* bench OF, I'd start that guy over either of the two we've got. Since we don't, well... I'd rather grab the guy who covers more ground.

*OE: As it turns out, Castillo was a decent choice-- even with his power, he's OPSing .919 against Ol' Man of the Mound over 30 career PAs, most in the last two years.

Fun fact that I found out while doing oppo research (read "googling because I have work to do that I don't feel like doing") - Jamie Moyer is the son-in-law of ex-Notre Dame basketball coach Digger Phelps.

We don't "have" to work Matthews in, any more than we "have" to DFA him.

I would have started Castillo leadoff.

I'm gonna borrow one of Elvis's old shotguns and shoot my TV the next time I hear someone start talking about what a number three hitter has to do.

It's funny how the crowd sounds like they expect every
Philly pop fly to go over the fence.

Yeah, well, a whole lot of Philly pop flies go over the fence.
