Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Jeter supposedly is rarely in the clubhouse and often retreats to unreachable areas beyond post-game comments as he's headed out of sight.I've heard guys like Kay laud him for this, call it 'business like', etc. He'd be ripped for hiding from the media in the Mets clubhouse.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Understated elegance is code for "stiff." I am the embodiment of overstated idiocy. Way funner.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I saw that article this morning, threw up a little in my mouth and turned the page.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Pretty funny what happened to the MFYs yesterday, anyway. With 2 on and Marte facing Kendry Morales, Clueless Joe called for an intentional walk, but changed his mind after the first intentional ball. Marte threw two more pitches called balls. At 3-0, you have to go back to the IW, yes? Nope, not Joe "We Never Give in at 3-0" Girardi. So Marte grooves one and Morales puts it over the fence for a 3r HR.They'd be calling to fire Jerry today had he done that (you would too).
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I saw that. One of the dumbest things I have ever seen.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Yes, but it ALMOST makes me want to put on Francesa today. Y'know, to empathize.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Wow. That's bad.I'm just happy they lost a series. All day sunday seemed like a lovefest with them talking about series-wins records to start the season and blah blah blah. Jinxed it maybe. I'm holding out that the guys that they were worried about being 'old' and 'worn down' but aren't early on, do finally succumb to the age factor. Also, isn't A-Rod's hip basically a season-ending surgery waiting to happen? That confuses me, it seemed like almost a sure thing he'd have to have surgery after last season and that it wasn't something that would/could heal.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 The paragons of tolerance are already trying to figure out which car is Vasquez's so they can light it on fire.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 And not just two men on, but it was men on 1st and 2nd when the signals got crossed!!Did Marte really think - or did Girardi really consider - issuing an IW to push more runs into scoring position?!?One thing I know for sure, Michael Kay isn't going to take Girardi to task for it.

Beyond that though he does get scarce, rarely if ever doing any other than just the required minimum. For WFAN he'll give the obligatory spring training interview when M&MD (or now just Mike) goes on location in Florida but that's the last they'll hear from him for the year. If the station wants to put on a Yanqui player on a slow day in June and asks for Jeter they'll get fed the standard line that 'he's busy preparing for the game' and it doesn't matter if it's an early game against Boston or some Tuesday night snooze-fest with KC, Sir Derek just isn't available. The funny thing about Rivera rarely speaking was that the one time he did was prior to game 7 in Arizona 2001. According to Buster Olney's book, the players were so shocked not only that he spoke but also by his 'whatever happens is in God's hands' message that they thought it totally upset whatever karma they had going as a result what Torre and several of the other players had said.

He will get you to come with just... one... pitch. He will bare his teeth like a bear* asserting his dominance after you confirm, but otherwise will not celebrate, as such displays are unbecoming of a champion, unless it involves the pudgy pre-adolescent sons of mayors and commissioning portraits of one's championy self as a half-horse, half-man. Also, he will not celebrate because it disturbs the termite family lodged in his inner ear, and increases the pace of rot in his inner spirals. Because unlike his predecessor Wetteland, who's made of spit and hat stains, or pretenders like Farnsworth, who's made of Red Bull and papier-mached "Maxim" and "UFC Unleashed" back issues, he's made of mahogany, the stateliest of dark woods. He will serve you the best lemonade you have ever had. He will serve nothing else.*Ha!
