soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 After 3 games:-'Citi Field has no life in it'. Two days ago he was raving about the crowd and the feel at Opening Day.-'The Mets MUST end the homestand 4-2 or things will go downhill quickly'. This is from the same guy who loves to admonish callers who give up too early on the season by throwing out the old 'its a marathon not a sprint' chestnut.-'The Mets have not hit a home run for 2 games!' Yet David Wright exorcised his demons on Opening Day-'Citi Field will discourage sluggers to come play here.' (in next breath) 'Jorge Cantu wishes he could play at Citi everyday.'Yesterday he was saying that the Mets need a good start from someone other than Santana. He noted that Neise was 'okay' last night but then he went on about the lack of offense in last night's game. Reyes and Beltran weren't in the lineup last night, right?
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 soupy, why do you inflict him on yourself? I stopped listening years ago.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 I know, I know.Friday is a 'best of the week' thing for Howard so I suffer with WFAN more today than the rest of the week.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 You know, O&A are live most Fridays. Unlike old ridiculous Howard or windbagged Francesa.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 It's sad that each of the NY sports stations have afternoon drive hosts that hate the Mets.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 It's not really that Francessa hates the Mets; I mean, I think deep in his heart, like all MFY fans, he's terrified of them. What gets me about Fatcessa is that he doesn't understand them. He also carries on a weekly interview with Manuel that's painful to listen to. For whatever reason Mike tries very hard to be nice to Manuel and as a result he's never asked him a single tough question even if he'd bashed the Mets for days leasding up to the interview.Michael Kay, otoh, is a more overt Met-hater. He's just as frightened as Francessa but more likely to show it by making unfair comparisons between the franchises. "Yes, A-Rod is a roid freak, but the Mets have Luis Castillo!"
Guest MadDog Guests Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 HA HA HA HA! Say something funny, Mike!/awkward silence

I think that was at least part of the reason for his "gotta break up the cawr" campaign; he's gotta blame the players because he's been so supportive of the mgmt. There's also an element where he's trying to bait fans into a topic where the next 2 hours of programming is set with angry callers - only he's not as good at it as Dog used to be. Russo could say three sentences and get Yanqui fans P-O-ed for the next week.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Caller: "Mike, what exactly is a 'cut fastball'?"Mike: "It's a fastball that you cut."
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 My favorite was the caller who asked the Dog, "How is slugging percentage figured?" "Well, it's....well, .450 is a pretty good slugging percentage.""Does it have something to do with total bases?""No, nothing to do with total bases."

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The title of this thread is both unfair and untrue.Oh wait, I thought it said "Mike Francesa is not a moron." My mistake.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Niese explains the cutter on the b'cast ... I'm sure Francessa didn't see it he's probably off eating something.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 The other day there was a discussion about the Phillies' recent floundering and whether or not them getting "caught" stealing signs had anything to do with it.He was dead set that it was not possible and got to the point where he was screeching about how knowing the pitch doesn't actually help the hitter and that most players don't even want to know what pitch is coming because it messes them up.It was one of those days where I rage-switched the station quickly.

To think otherwise is to not understand how pitching works.
