Guest Kong76 Guests Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I got Pagan doing stuff tomorrow in the 'firsts' thread thing ... maybeMatthews will catch the plague tonight.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Jerry came over to sign autographs near where I was at the workout day today. I actually got to converse with him for 30 seconds about the lineup and reminded him of how wrong it was to have Cora leading off. His response was that "Lui doesn't like leadoff." He gave me the Jerry laugh when I pointed out that I thought Castillo should do whatever helps the team the most.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I wouldn't bat Cora leadoff, but the larger point is that Jerry's been dealt a bad hand if he's expected to contend without Reyes and Beltran.That.Seems also like Cora is getting the double courtesy of a veteran-gets-the-opener start since seems as if Jerry would prefer Tejada at SS or he wouldn't have flown him north.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Seven guys who will likely be making their Mets debut in the next few days. That will bring the Mets all-time player count from 874 to 881.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Ceetar, Its easy when you miss the playoffs by a game in a 162 game season to have a million "ifs" that should have gotten you into the playoffs. As for Manuel, I liked him when he took over from Willie but I feel like he has done less of a good job since that first season, particularly with regards to: setting the batting order when Reyes doesnt play (he chooses speed over OBP skills) and his use of the bullpen. The way this forum is becoming filled with "inexcuseable" and "obviously" is really annoying. These are all complex issues. Cora leading off today. Inexcusable. If the lineup on Mets Blog is correct [Cora, Castillo, Wright, Jacobs, Bay, Francoeur, Matthews, Barajas, Santana] thats three starters (reyes/beltran/murphy] missing from opening day, and i'd have started a different guy than Manuel is choosing in all 3 spots. Assuming I had control over the roster it would be Adams, Pagan, and Carter. But giving him the benefit of the doubt and saying the front office didn't give him a choice in who made the roster [tejada vs adams, jacobs vs carter] thers still Pagan and theres still the worst hitter in the lineup leading off.and hasn't Pagan earned the opening day start at home? both statistically compared to Matthews and by whatever intangibles you'd like to look at?

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 So, will they "go cream" today?
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I think I said some time in the offseason that I wouldn't get mad at Manuel until he sat Pagan against a righthanded pitcher while Francoeur and Matthews both played. Wow, that didn't take long.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Going ape-poopy over perceived errors in stewardship-- big and small-- is for May... or later tonight, at least. Now is the time when we enjoy an adult beverage* and dance like imbeciles.*Or, y'know, a second cup of coffee. Sigh.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Once again I am working on opening day and once again I will fool myself into thinking that I can just stay away from the score and watch it tonight in ignorance to the outcome, it never happens that way of course.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Yeah, I'm not even going to try.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 You are in for a treat LWFS, new born on the chest watching the games nightly......can't beat it.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I can't believe that's our Opening Day lineup. I don't know who to be more pissed at. Omar for the big pile of shit, or Jerry for the order in which he's presenting the shit. LGM. Whoo hoo.
