I wouldn't expect a torrent of it for any individual players on Opening Day, though I wouldn't swear Ollie won't absorb the brunt of what disgruntlement there is though he has never been a big-time target. It's often the reliever who "always" coughs it up, and we don't have a reigning champ in this regard. Schoeneweis was that fellow at the '08 Opener.Green's not making the team, though he seemed to be on that track. Though I don't recall him pitching that horribly. (numb to it maybe?) Then again, Heilman didn't exactly pitch horribly and got booed. There is a lot of hate directed at Perez and Castillo. And Perez always got it a bit, increasing exponentially with his BB rate. especially after this last televised performance, I don't see Perez not getting booed.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Or, rather than percentages, the other way to look at the boo-o-meter is to think about what each player would have to do to start the boos cascading down like a hard rain's gonna fall.Categories might range from:- be having a totally rotten season in late May: Wright, Reyes, Santana, Francoeur, Feliciano, Niese- get off to a rough start in April: Bay, Murphy, any catcher, Frankie Rod, Pagan- have more than two bad games in a row: Mathews, Maine, Pelfrey, or any Japanese pitcher- get introduced at Citi: Cora, Warthen, Manual, Minaya, Wilpon (either one)- step off the plane at LaGuardia: Castillo, Perez

Guest GYC Guests Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I'm against Opening Day boo-ing, but I'm completely for booing Ollie in his first Shea start, assuming it's his first start of the season.

The only person I've boo'd from the personal confines of my room is Luis Castillo and Derek Jeter.

But Perez and the Training Staff got it worse than Hanley. There were boos for Manuel too. More than Green, less than the Training Staff.I'm quite sunburnt, but it was worth it.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 A sunburn is better than frostbite on Opening Day.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 If Bay regularly shows the kind of hustle he did on that triple, he'll endear himself to Mets fans very quickly.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Yep - training staff, and Warthen got a nice round of raspberries also.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Can somebody explain to me booing Green, or do we need to bring in a special guest numbnuts to spell it out for me?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 The training staff getting it was absolutely brilliant. That's paying attention. I didn't boo them but I did admonish them to DO YOUR JOBS BETTER!Darryl and Johan got the biggest cheers. I stepped on the moment of silence for Jane Jarvis by applauding.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Don't have much to add other than great tailgate, a lot of sunshine, and a long day (after a long weekend) make for sleepy time time ... Clapton's cool in this (not that he isn't always)

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 "Sorry, Sean. We need to beat up on a reliever. It's sort of a tradition and you drew the short straw. If Putz had come back it would have been different. I'm sure you understand."
