nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 in a 12 team league i'd say you need one guy you can count on for saves and probably want a couple of guys who may get saves at some point this year. particularly useful are guys like Marmol and Lidge before they became closers because you knew that not only were they next in line but they'd strike out 90+ batters for you and not be useless until then.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 i'm going to have to check out before 9pm, so i hope it goes quickly. But i have a question: if i have to go to auto=draft at some point, will it know to only pick NLers? Or will i be completely screwed?
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 also, whats this about a $1000 waiver budget? How does that work?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Yeah, there will be an NL-only player pool, so even auto-drafting will choose eligible players. No guarantee that they'll be good, or healthy, just eligible. The bidding bucks works like this -- you get $1000 in play money to use all season. If you want a player that is on waivers (i.e., just added to Yahoo from the minors, or recently cut by another team), you bid as much of your money as you think the player is worth. It's blind bidding -- so you won't know if or how much any one else has bid for the same guy. At the end of the waiver period the highest bid gets the player. The bidding bucks can also be used as part of a trade I believe.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 How is draft order determined?

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Per regsThe draft order will be randomly determined approximately 30 minutes before the draft begins.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 i pick 1st! i have 22 minutes to talk myself out of pujols!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Draft took just under two hours... I am happy with my team. A little thin on the last few hitters, and definitely weak on the back end of my rotation. Still like my chances.Pooed My HunterPenceRound Pick Player Position1. (4) Ryan Braun OF2. metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 It was a lot of fun , I like my team , not a lot of steals but plenty of home runs, no big stud pitcher but a few two types and saves....
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Let's Go Mets! (and, uh, Reds). I like my team but I haven't played in 20 years. nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I'm reasonably happy with my team though there were a few key guys in rounds 10-20 that i really wanted and thought would fall to me but didnt.Hitters- Olivo, Pujols, Hairston, Escobar, Reynolds, Glaus, Bourn, Soriano, Hawpe, Heyward, SmithPitchers- Carpenter, Cain, Webb, Hoffman, Capps, Richard, Blanton, Padilla, Pennybench- Looper, Marshall, Myers, Nieve, VazquezI goofed on Vazquez seeing the name and forgetting the injury, that cost me the chance to grab Lindstrom or Morales both of whom should get some saves this year and almost made it to my next pick

It must have been a bit unnerving to use a computer as apposed to what you used twenty years ago, a pen and paper and an abacus?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 The draft was easy (and fun!) back then. We got beer and all gathered together for an auction-style draft. It was calculating the weekly stats by hand which was the pain in the ass.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Was out celebrating last night and didn't get to the draft. I've always had good luck with prerankings..but Iguess NL field is so slim..ouch..eww...I've got Tatis, Sheffield, and Delgado. *shudder*Oh, and Pedro and Dukes also, of the NA guys.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Yeah I saw you getting stiffed with those guys , although when you auto picked Delgado you were getting props in the chat section. We had a good turn out for the draft which I think made it fun. I think it would suck if only a few were able to make it.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Draft can be fun. They take too long sometimes though, can be a pain if you're in a lot. Rookie mistake on my part I guess, not realizing how slim pickings would be. Still wish it wouldn't have some NAs so high.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 i had to autodraft the last 7 rounds and got totally screwed over by that freakin machine. MIKE JACOBS! JEFF WEAVER! for feck's sake!Lunchpail, i wish i shared your confidence in my draft.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 i do not feel good about my team. not one bit.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Me neither. Lunchables kept grabbing everyone I wanted.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2010 Author Posted March 27, 2010 I love my team... most of my hitters are solid even for a mixed league and I have some real upside at the ass end of my rotation. I'm a little worried about my batting average but I've got solid numbers coming otherwise.Having done NL only before I prefer it, it's WAY harder than your 12 team mixed league vanilla league.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I proposed a Howard for Pujols trade with Nymr, haven't heard back yet.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Of course you did , I was only following up on the ridiculous articles that appeared last week regarding the Phillies brass having internal talks regarding such a move.
