Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I like 43 for Fogg and 2 for Catalonotto. I'd prefer to see Chris Carter in a 10 or a 30, perhaps.Ike Davis can keep his 78 for now, but ultimately I'd like to get him in a number below 20.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The likes of R.A. Dickey in Jerry Koosman's number. Sigh.I know I have to get over such things.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 If Frankie C. sticks he'll be the first player wearing 2 in fifteen years, according to the invaluable mbtn.com.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I look forward to Bobby Valentine ripping it off his back.*And wow! A Japanese pitcher in 18!(Not really. Well, kinda really, but only knida.)
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 No guarentee the spring number will be the 40-man roster number.79 for Tejada? he's moved up 7.5 or so. progress.

It's the mark of the journeyman for more than 30 years now.Best 36 since Kooz? Ed Lynch, probably, and Ed Lynch often sucked. After Lynch? Greg McMichael, and he often sucked more. Third place? As Alec Baldwin made clear in Glengarry Glen Ross, there is no third place. There's not even a set of steak knives.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The likes of Francisco Rodriguez(75) and Kirk Nieuwenhuis(91) must know they have no chance of making the club going north.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Hey, Elmer, you wore 64 last year. No asterisk for you.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Farewell to #35, DFA'd today to make room for waiver pick-up (because Minnesota made room for Orlando Hudson who should be a Met), Jason Pridie, in the name of love.http://www.thebaseballcube.com/Players/P/Jason-Pridie.shtml
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The question I'm asking is, why are they holding onto #24? Unofficial retirement for Mays and/or Rickey?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Willie. He was Joan Payson's favorite player and she apparently made a promise to him that the Mets wouldn't re-issue 24 after she brought him back to NY to finish his career. Mays of course would fall very short of any kind of "retirement" standards, especially after Payson died, her family sold the team, and Mays stopped serving it, and the newer regime kind of tested the memory when they issued Kelvin Torve 24 for a week or so in 1990. Rickey a future 24-wearing HOFer himself, apparently got Mays' okay to wear 24 when he arrived.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Mays should have no say in the matter. Where has he been since 1979?Willie Mays is one of my all-time favorite players, but he's not a Met. He's a Giant. I'd give number 24 to the next scrub that comes along. And then the next scrub after that.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Two catchers with numbers under 10.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Mays has a say because he's holding a promise voucher, which is still good for something if only team honor. You think the media wouldn't rip the team from coast to coast if he they went back on it whether Willie cared or not?Benjamin Grimm wrote:Where has he been since 1979?Under a ban of sorts, isn't he?

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I prefer limbo to scrubness, but I'd really prefer 24 be treated royally.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I guess this should be obvious, but why are the wide receiver numbers off limits to spring training invitees?

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 In my mind, 6 + Firstbase = Mike Marshall, and that's not pleasant math.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I'm in the camp that says to keep 24 on the shelf, saluting one the best players ever for his days in New York both before and after San Francisco.
