Frenchy Francoeur is a free agent too.

Kaz Matsui returning to Japan to play for Eagles
TOKYO (AP) -- Kazuo Matsui has returned to Japan and joined the Rakuten Eagles after spending seven seasons in the major leagues.

The Eagles said Thursday they reached an agreement with the 35-year-old infielder, who played for the New York Mets, Colorado Rockies and Houston Astros from 2004-10.

The switch-hitting Matsui was waived by the Astros in May and finished the year in the minors.

Matsui, who helped the Rockies reach the 2007 World Series, batted .267 with 615 hits and 102 stolen bases in the majors. He played in only 27 games for Houston this season, hitting .141.

Omir Santos to Tigers; Ty Wigginton to Rockies; J.J. Putz to Diamondbacks; Roberto Alomar to where, one wonders, after he seemed so happy to be here when he had just arrived.

''Finally I get a chance to wear this uniform,'' he said. ''I'm excited. It's like being a little kid again.''

I remember the Spring Training of the year I guess he got traded , he and Maine are doing a sit down lunch on SNY with whoever the host was then, seemed like a guy with a future on the Mets...I do find it a shame to see guys like that basically disappear , bounce around...

I'd throw him a minor-league deal. Still only 28, and hasn't been awful.

I would too. He's young enough that he still has time to get it.

Kevin Mulvey is in similar territory.

And for the record in this thread, Feliciano Comma Pedro, a Y Comma MF.

Bowman stands out there. He's a defensive specialist had a nice little breakthrough in 2009. He then found his power stroke in 2010 after Toronto grabbed him off waivers.

Maybe the world would have been a better place if Charlie Samuels got fired after letting Willie Collazo take the field with his name mis-spelled.
