Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Casey Stengel at (presumably) the Polo Grounds with Miss Rheingold 1962, Kathy Kersh:
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 That ad was pulled by the Mets after Commissioner Frick fined Casey Stengel $500.00 for violating the Baseball rule prohibiting anyone under MLB contract from appearing in an ad for alcoholic beverages while in a baseball uniform. The ad appeared in many magazines through May of 1962 and also, in commercially larger sizes in public spaces, including subway stations.Casey and the Mets would get the last laugh on the Baseball establishment. Next year's Rheingold ad campaign included Casey posing with Loretta Rissell, Miss Rheingold 1963. This time, Casey appeared in civilian clothing to satisfy the rule but Miss Rheingold was photographed in a Mets baseball cap alongside Casey. There was nothing in the rules preventing the model from wearing any part of a baseball uniform. Here's a link to the 1963 ad.http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=MZ9&um=1&sa=1&q=rheingold+stengel&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0Misc:Kathy Kersh appeared in two Batman TV episodes in 1966 as one of the Joker's underlings. She would marry Burt Robin Ward a year later in what would be a turbulent two year marriage. In the 1962 ad, Casey is poised to lay down a bunt even though Kathy Kersh is standing behind Casey and holding the baseball.Casey's heavy socks were not standard issue Mets stirrups, but two tone blue over white sweatsocks.Trivia: Where'd those socks come from?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Should we be awarding points for the Rheingold player of the game?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 That's facinating stuff, man. Burt Ward, huh?Trivia: Where'd those socks come from?I dunno but can you pick me up a pair?Miss Rheingold was re-done "ironically" most recently as a tattooed chick with attitude in an attempt to woo the PBR crowd but I think they came off like they were trying too hard.

That ad was shot in California before Spring Training, possibly in Glendale, to accommodate Casey.Wow' date=' they fought over pantyhose or something?[/quote:35k61dzw']Beats me, but now you know that there are but two degrees of Kevin Bacon between Burt Ward and Casey Stengel. And no more than three degrees of Kevin Bacon between Burt Ward and any of the Mets that played under Casey (but subtract one degree of bacon on the ballplayers if Kathy Kersh was makin' bacon with any of 'em. Holy Heart of Harkness, Miss Kitka!)
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I'll guess those socks were football socks, maybe from the Giants.Sombebody post a 1963 Miss Rheingold Mets ad NOW!!!!

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Again, maybe the gin talking, but I'd like to drink a case of Schlitz and then put it in the butt of Miss Rheingold. Which one? Whatever...And I mean, now, in 2010. I'm sure they still look presentable enough.

While Casey and Kathy were photographed in California, is it possible that they were then superimposed onto a PG basckground? I can't say for sure, but that part of the gate exposed behind the bunting decorations bears a strong resemblance to the actual Polo Grounds stands/gates. Can any Polo Grounds experts here chime in?
