Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Roster changes:Phils add Brett Myers and drop Miguel Cairo. I think anytime the words 'drop', 'Miguel', and 'Cairo' are used in a sentence and in that order it's generally a good thing for the team - even if it adds an ass like Myers.Yanx are expected to swap out pinch-runner Freddie Guzman in favor of Eric Hinske (always good to add a DH-type when 3 of the games won't be played with one) but I don't know that this is official yet. Maybe this signals that they're nervous about Swisher's bad showing in the ALCS and are considering giving Hinskie a start against some random RHP (like maybe Pedro). Supposedly Girardi hinted at using Matsui in the OF during one of the game in Philly since he can't DH but I can't believe that would happen. Dude hasn't used a glove since sometime in late 2008.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Swisher's worthlessness was really starting to show in the first couple series.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 The Yankee fan abusing me in Facebook has been giving it to Swisher twice as bad. Hey, Mr. Short-Term Memory! Swishie helped get your team there and, to his credit, he hit most of his homers on the road. Love him. Don't give him that A-Rod crap.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Swisher gets cut a whole lot of slack becuase he's the joker on the team , the media guys love him......I've not read Harper but I would bet he would write that Swisher is the kind of guy a winning team needs.....even though Swisher hasn't hit a lick in this post-season his temamates appreciate how he keeps them all loose , case in point is Swisher getting a mohawk , even with his struggles at the plate and in the field he did that , Jeter and Rivera laughed when he walked into the clubhouse .....no surprise when later Jeter hit four homeruns

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 The MFY stadium staff plays the "Imperial Theme" to underscore the Phillies' starting lineup announcement. You got the analogy backwards, sound guy.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 In the only game I give a flying leap about tonight it's Rangers and Islanders tied at 1 at the first intermission.

They should have used the Imperial March just to have some fun with the "Evil Empire" line.Kind of the way Strawberry and Met fans turned DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYY into an acceptable chant, even if it was intended to be derogatory.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 Nice to see them get burned by a 316 ft special for a change.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Aaaaaaand Buck and McCarver are going on mute now. I'm losing too many baseball-IQ points here.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I think I have it figured out-- I'll just root for the away team in every game. That way, you get both a loss for a team you hate AND sad fan shots. So far, so good.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Good job by the umpires on that call
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 2nd base ump CLEARLY called a catch on that ball - so it's Matsui's fault for not seeing that and getting his ass back to 1st.And now they get the call right but I don't even see what all the discussion was about.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 And that puts the score this offseason at Humans 1, Unblinking Robot Eyes 374.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Nice to be able to appreciate and enjoy an Utley 2 homer game!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 OK, that one was a bit more than 316 ft
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Chase phucking Utley....two home runs tonight , both on two strike counts Timmy tells us.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Those are kind of fun when they're not ripping your heart out.Utley's hands are faster than your slutty cousin after a boozy wedding.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Ha. Cliff Lee, you hotdogging sumbitch.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 MFY fan friend is lamenting the loss of -- of all people -- Ronan Tynan. Because after spending a billion dollars on player salaries, you still need a fat opera singer to ice the opposing pitcher before the bottom of the seventh. But then I thought about it -- Ronan Tynan didn't appear on the scene until when? 2001, after 9/11... and they haven't won jack since. They need to bring him back NOW... it's the Curse of Ronan Tynan!Oh, and Rudy Giuliani is a fucking moron.Your hat is backwards, dipwad.

Plus, of course, it you were to time-travel back to that time then all the fans there would be wishing for the throwback players from several decades earlier.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 I want to see Cliff Lee stay in this game as long as possible ... and then maybe a batter or two after that.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Does Girardi sit Posada in game two because Burnett needs his personal catcher? , looking at Posada's numbers against Pedro he has in 60AB's .186 BA.290 OBP4 hr , 10 rbi and 8 bb
