Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 And raise your hand if you pictured Darren Oliver being awarded high-leverage post-season innings.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 You know it's a dubious honor, and who knows how sustainable it is, but Oliver may have turned himself into the best mopup pitcher in baseball.Check him out over the last four seasons.WLW%ERAGGSGFCGSHOSVIPHRERHRBBIBBSOHBPBKWPBFERA+WHIPH/9HR/9BB/9SO/9SO/BB194.8263.19223148000290.332561101032882142241311211901431.167.940.872.546.942.73
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Interesting. They let him start one game during that time. But with that good record in relief, he had no saves? Later

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 They're going down, down in an earlier round. But, sugar, they're going down swinging.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Joe Buck, in discussing the latest Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman, described the land-locked mountainous country of Andorra (Chapman's current nation of residence) as "a small island".Meanwhile, nice 1st inning by the Angels (which I missed) but they're still holding on to the same 4-0 lead *PLUS* the game is running at a somewhat normal speed and, at this rate, could even come in under the 3 hour barrier.Lackey's kept his pitch count down and looks like he can go for a while longer as they head to the 7th.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I've never seen much of Lackey before but I'm liking what I see this series....guys got some balls and fighting spirit.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 I spoke too soon it looks like.Lackey got screwed on that (non) call on Posada.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 I think the idea was to turn Teixeira around to hit righty where he's less likely to HR - but I would have given Lackey at least one more batter.and now he can't even get a win.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Lackey's doing great. He doesn't look to be tiring-- the walks are more a product of a bad call, and some overly-careful nibbling. So obviously, you pull him with the bases loaded in favor of the guy letting up 2 baserunners an inning this series.

Guest Number 6 Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 This season just needs to end. Or better yet, I need to stop watching it.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Once upon a time, a manager leaves a starter in to face Scioscia in an LCS game and it proves lethal. Twenty-one years later, Scioscia takes a starter out in an LCS game and it proves disastrous.

I would've thought 20 years later it wouldn't hurt.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Hughes makes Vladdy Daddy look silly on two straight curveballs, so naturally he shakes Posada off twice and throws a fastball right down the middle. Two hopper up the middle to tie it. I like it.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Hungry for runs?Banh mi fans may argue, as may salame lovers. But for my money, there's nothing like a well-done Cuban. Edited October 22, 2009 by Guest

I bet I could get some good sleep in there as well.I'm convinced at this point that the Angels' 7th inning outburst only took place so that I could be driven crazy when the Yanks take the lead back in the 8th.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 With all due respect to the alltime Yankee hit leader...STFD, ya effete, singles-hitting Muppet.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Maybe my perspective is warped and nuts and fed by bitterness, but I'd gladly send Francisco Rodriguez back to the halos right now.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Way to hit it to Morales.Way to pitch to him also. Let him hit it, maybe they'll catch it. Beats a walk.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Two outs. Waddaya do with A-Rod?WOW! A bases empty intentional. It's like Kelly Leak was up.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Normally I'd kill the IW in this kind of spot (putting the tying run on) but w/ARod hitting like he is and setting up a lefty/lefty situation w/Matsui I approve. Edited October 22, 2009 by Guest
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Oh, I'll kill him. IBBs are weak sauce.Scoscia's managing like some kind of Joetard tonight. Did Girardi sneeze on him pregame, or something? Edited October 22, 2009 by Guest
