Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Fred Phelps signs and fortuitous "magic hour" lighting aside, I generally have no inkling how God, if he/she/it exists, feels about things. But I'm pretty damn sure God hates intentional walks, too. Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Youse guys can hit all the sensory deprivation chambers you want, but there's been some fun baseball games played over the last two weeks. Now if we could knock off about a minute of commercial time per inning and cut the number of mound visits down by about 70% percent it would be even better ... but that's a discussion for another day.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I can't stand Brian Fuentes. I can't say I had much of an opinion on him prior to this series.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 POP QUIZ: Friend of mine just offered me a ticket to Game 6. I DO want to go. I think. Do I go? Do I want to?

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I was certain the 6 run inning did them in, then I realized my references are all deranged by having watched the Mets these last 3 seasons. 4 run first then nothing? Just like the Mets. Questionable early hook blows up? Mets all over. etc etc. But yeah, excellent character win. The Phils have been doing the same thing. This win is terrific news for the Phillies if it forces CC into action once more before Wednesday.
Guest Number 6 Guests Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I've been equating the Twins and Angels with the Mets in my expectations so far. There have been many times where both have played down to that expectation.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I'm up with the kid and I'm thrilled to see the Angels won, surprised as I was certain that inning was it for them. Who in the Yankee pen coughed up the runs?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Hughes was the main culprit. He and Marte allowed 1 each of Gay Jay's inherited runners to score and Hughes then coughed up one more.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I give the Angels credit for surviving to this point in spite of themselves.I'm still puzzled by bringing in Oliver to pitch to Teixeira after not bringing him in to face Damon. He appeared to have sufficient time to warm up, and if he was having trouble warming up that ought to have been a huge red flag.Bringing in Weaver in relief was brilliant. Replacing him with Fuentes after he threw a fantastic eighth was less so. That was a good time to throw the book out the window.Scioscia should seriously consider using Lackey as a closer the next two games. If the Mets think the money they're paying Frankie would be better spent elsewhere, I'd bet the Angels would take him back (and he'd waive his NTC without a major hassle).
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I'm with you, brutha.I have this crazy idea to make John F. Maine the new Mets relief ace and use the extra cash to buy us a starting pitcher.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 The OnionJoba Chamberlain Gets Permission To Stay Up For Whole Yankees-Angels GameANAHEIM, CAYankees management announced at a postgame press conference Monday that reliever Joba Chamberlain had permission to stay up past his normal 9 p.m. bedtime and would be allowed to attend Game 4 of the ALCS in its entirety. "Young pitchers aren't supposed to stay up late, but he earned it with his recent commitment to improving in the bullpen, plus he asked very nicely," said Yankees GM Brian Cashman, adding that Chamberlain would not, under any circumstance, be allowed to stay up for extra innings. "He needs to understand, though, that this is a special occasion because it's the postseason. He still has to put on his pajamas after the fifth inning. And no candy or soda after 8." Cashman added that, despite rumors, Yankees reliever Phil Hughes would not be allowed to sleep over at Chamberlain's home Thursday as it is a game night.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 So, yeah, I'm going to Game 6.Was thisclose to making an iron-on shirt last night after passing a craft shop on the way from happy-hour. (Considered messages: "Sons of Scot Shields" or-- borrowing a bit from FAFIF-- "Today, Ich bin ein Erick Aybar.") Kinda forgot I didn't have a blank red shirt at home.As it turns out, I'm meeting my friend with the tickets at Stan's Sports Bar, and I might have to wait a bit. So not having "Fuck you, MFYs"-type clothes might help me avoid some... um... overly-'sporty' badinage, ifyoufollow.I weighed blowing off my friend, but, well, it's playoff baseball, and all but one game has been tight and fun. Also, my last two playoff games were Games 2 and 7 of the 2006 NLCS, so I figure that if crosses the bridge to the Boogie Down, my home-team-sinking playoff mojo can only help. This could be a looooooong night.
