Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Number of players in this lineup who would be starting for another team in the majors this year....umm...1? Maybe 2?
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Schneider starts for a few teams, Francoeur probably too, and Castillo for about 1/3 of the league or more. thats about it.

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 I wouldn't start Schneider even on this team. His batting average is .197 and his OPS is .648. It's pathetic.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Is this the worst starting lineup in NY Mets history?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 You know, I don't listen to Michael Kay, and I remembered why today -- I flipped to him to get away from Mike Francesa sucking Joe Girardi's dick this afternoon, and stumbled across Don LaGreca saying that "there's no reason why the Mets shouldn't be a playoff-caliber team right now. I mean, they've got their everyday catcher out there in Schneider, they've got their second baseman in Castillo, and they've got David Wright at third base every day."And stopped there. Hey Don, how about the fact that Wright forgot how to hit home runs, Schneider forgot how to hit anything, and THE REST OF THE TEAM SUCKS. (sigh)
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 OK, let's fire this fucker up, cleanse the palate, start fresh here. Last night's game is lingering in my mouth like a certain substance deposited there by a certain guy to a certain other guy in compensation for a ride once when I was stuck on the side of the road.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Let's accentuate the positives here.1. The game looks nice on my big 46" HDTV. Nice crisp foul lines.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 2. None of the 2009 Mets have perished in a grease fire.(Wait, maybe not a positive.)

Methead Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 You know, I just realized... watching this team in the field reminds me of the time I played intramural softball, and one game we had like 3 players who didn't show up and we decided to try playing anyway.

That point was that Mets pitching woes have been such that when the team takes the field the only time the players must feel they have a reasonable expectation of winning is when Santana takes the mound.[/quote:1q09tndh]See I hang this on the batting woes. And I make no exception for Cory. They are overmatched --- a month of Daniel Murphy batting cleanup will move future researchers to do some serious head scratching --- but that should make them more focused on strategemeric thinking, not less. That said, every time Livan starts a game, I think, "Oh, yeah, he's still here," so disengagement has spread to me. I'd really like to talk to Sheffield about why on earth he wants to go down with this ship.Fman99 Aug 12 2009 08:47 AM="PiggiesTomatoes":2oa4i2aa]Couldn't listen to the DB TV announcers so I switched to WFAN and Howie Rose made a very good point late in the game. That point was that Mets pitching woes have been such that when the team takes the field the only time the players must feel they have a reasonable expectation of winning is when Santana takes the mound.Howie was very direct in referring to The Tall Glass of Water as a tremendous disappointment.Master OTO, Wayne Hagin, next chimes in wondering out loud how things were going to get better.I believe that's accurate and a factor as to why recent play has been so sloppy. Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Well, screw it then, I'll say it: I want to see someone hit a home run to the Friday's. I want to see potato skins up in the air, and Jack Daniel's glaze spraying on the level below. I don't even care if it's a D-Back.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Cora with the two out ribbie. Every time the Mets do that I feel like I just saw a unicorn.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Alex Cora. Gritty hit. Lofty hit.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I haven't hated an Australian this much since Crocodile Dundee II.
