Which do you use when speaking/typing/thinking about the guys in blue and orange?

Here's some context for you...

_________ need a run here!

or...

The umpires were really giving ________ the shaft on those balk calls.

I try to rarely use 'we'.

I think during the course of a game I may say 'we' or 'us' but in general terms I say 'they' or 'them'.

I mean, after all, I'm not on the team or employed by the Mets in any capacity so...

I use we when I'm wound-licking (We suck!) and in the company of other people who would also use "we."

They in more formal settings, with non-baseball fans, professionally, etc.

I try not to use we but still catch myself doing it anyhow.

We/us when they have done well.

The Mets when they suck ass.

I like coinages that eminate from a Metly root.

I never use "we/us" when talking about the team. I'm not on their payroll.
I sometimes use "we/us" when talking about the fans, but more often just "the fans".

my mom used to call them "your Mets" when discussing them with me after a loss; they were "my Mets" when she talked about them after a win.

Context is everything.

This is me also. I find myself about to type "we" and change it to "the Mets."

We are Mets fans. We are not Mets.

So maybe, abstractly, "we" could mean, "We Mets fans need a hit," or something like that.

I use both, as well as "the Mets".

Never gave it much thought as to why which comes out, but upon reflection I'd have to say
I usually use "we" in anticipation of events about to happen and "they" in retrospect of what has happened.
Might have something to do with being in the moment while viewing a game.
Also how, when viewing a game, I feel the team as well as us fans are kind of in the same boat.

Before things happen we all have our hopes.
After things happen is the reality of what the team did.

I usually use "the Mets" in referring to the team when I am not observing them play.

I chose we/us for this poll because I think most of what I say in terms of rooting for the Mets is said with hope.

Funny, mine too many times. She took to calling them your/my Metsies
though. I like that Keith has the balls to call them the Metsies on tv.

Use of we/us happens often at the ballpark, where you feel like you're a part of the action: "C'mon Carlos, we need a hit here!"

But use of them/they often happens in discussion afterwards: "I can't believe they only had three hits"

Also: the let's in "Let's go Mets" is a contraction of "let us"

Typically WE/US. Sometimes THEM/THEY. But mostly WE/US.

I'm not ashamed.
