Keith and Gary made a great point. He hasn't gotten hot yet and is striking out like he's never done before and he's still hitting .326.

I'll add to that. His OBP is .409 and lots of morons on the radio hate him. Even some of the smart folk on this site are ripping him a new one.

The team's in first place. Can we leave him alone for a little while and show a little love? Maybe at least wait until his average dips below .310?

Worried muttering? Yes, indeedy. I'm not so worried about him, long-term. It's just that, as other aspects of the team-- OF defense, starting pitching, bullpen, baserunning-- begin to show chinks via injury/fatigue/general badness, there's less leeway for the stalwarts to be human and still keep the team afloat, standings-wise.

#2 was slightly disturbing if only because it was so out of whack to the consistency he had displayed in his career. His ~110 Ks/yr were suddenly on a pace for 200+

#3 is usually a self-correcting fluke that will trend towards normal with a larger sample size although it does tend to be the one that gets radio call-in types (on both sides of the phone line) apoplectic the quickest
