Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 From his Thursday post:" It's always nice to see the Mets' one true Hall of Famer, Tom Seaver, come back to Flushing. But just so everyone understands, he's paid for these appearances."A) So what? and How many Yankees were paid for their appearances? I don't understand the cheap shots.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I would think that is standard operating procedure .
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Seaver is listed in the media guide as a Mets Ambassador (as is Rusty Staub) which, besides being a cool title, probably includes a "stipend" and a requirement to makes a certain number of appearances.Heyman is a MFY loving hack.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Is the guy supposed to travel from California out of the goodness of his heart? For all he did for the Mets, I'd be OK with them still giving Seaver meal money every day.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 ]I would think that is standard operating procedureEspecially for guys who live across the country.I'm still wondering (and will never find out) how much George had to pay Yogi to get him to "forgive" past sins and return to the Yanqui "family". Always struck me as more than a bit of a coincidence that Yogi's return was right around the time he was starting up that whole museum/side business thing (come see my new tribute to me -- contributions welcome). It was also right at the time that George needed an icon to trot out during big games & events seeing as how Mantle had just died, the always-prickly DiMag was on his last legs, and funny Phil just wasn't a big enough name even after the rigged HoF vote.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Heyman, of course, brightens our darkness for free.

I wrote to him to express my dismay that he'd indulge the "dumb blonde" stereotype so reflexively, that any blonde woman who wasn't "dumb" was an anomaly (my mother, my sister and my wife were/are all blonde, so consider it a personal affront never mind lousy writing). He wrote back pretty quickly that yeah, you're right, I shouldn't have done that.Of course we're not many steps, if we care to take purposefully large Wally Matthews-type strides, from Tom Seaver gets paid to appear and Jon Heyman instinctively trends to dumb blonde references to his dragging the blonde Mrs. Seaver into all this and maybe she's still jealous that Ruth Ryan's husband gets paid more to appear in places. If a modern-day columnist picked up that gauntlet, Dick Young would heartily approve.
