In other words, the MFY 2009 thread.

Latest news other than the A-Rod Press Conference:

*Jim Leyritz is released from jail after being thrown in for drinking, in violation of his bail. The good news is that he managed to go all of 2008 without killing someone.

*Newsday is reporting that the Feds are talking to Andy Pettite about Clemens' use of steroids. Andy may become a crucial witness against the lying scumbag.

Police are looking for this guy who knocked over a Rochester bank, wearing a Yankee insignia on his hat and what seems to be the watermark of a Mets insignia on his shirt.

The individual is believed to be disturbed.

By me.

I was thinking "Mutants, Creeps, and Musclemen"

Actually, the total sum of Yankee seniority in that photo is Joba. You can barely see Nady and Matsui, but other than that, you could barely call those guys "teammates."

The photo from the front of today's Times is more comprehensive. I couldn't find it, but it pictured senior Yankees Jeter, Rivera, Posada, and Pettitte up fronttitte.

The Wal-Mart gangsta look is badness.

"I'd like to apologize to baseball, my fans, parents .... and my homies --- the Orij'nall Stripmall Pimps in the front row. I ain't got nothin' but love for y'all. Peace."

Reading their myspace page I think Andy might have found them because he was lost.

Righteous Anger was formed back in 1985, then as the Christian Rock band Halo. It was 1990 the band underwent some member changes, and reformed as Righteous Anger. RA had moderate, yet unsigned success. The Band disbanded in 1994. Now.....13 years later, RA has reformed, and reinvented its self. Righteous Anger is a Christian Metal Band, our whole purpose is to spread the inerrant word of God to the Lost, or God will bless those who are saved thru our music. Don't get us wrong, we love to Rock, and Rock hard, but all the members of the band have a passion for ministering to the lost. Remember, we all fall short of the glory of God, but thru the Grace of God, and the Blood of Jesus Christ, and by Christ raising from the Dead, we, as sinners, can have Salvation thru him. Righteous Anger is back with a whole new sound, yes a bit heavier, but also a bit more progressive. The Newest member.....Zakk the timekeeper, fast feet, and thunderous Tom work.....his fresh approach, and youthfulness brings a whole different dynamic to RA.
Righteous Angers line up has two original members in it, and another member that came in a couple years later, and the drummer is a fresh new face.
"Zakk gives us that youthful energy and drive, an excellent drummer, a really nice addition to this band" Mark (Vocals)
Righteous Anger is currently in studio working on the new album, to be released later this year on Soul Joy Records. Also there will be some live shows in the local area. Look for a Late Spring and Summer tour.
Righteousangerband.com will be up and running here shortly as well, we hope to have a lot of interesting stuff on there for all.
Be sure to stop by our online Merch booth, here on this page, check out all the great RA apparel, and even some shoes.

So, in short, Zakk has been like a vitamin shot in the ass for an aging Righteous Anger, trying to recover from the injury of their long-ago rift?

Son of Yankees VP trafficked steroids in 2002

TAMPA, Fla. - The son of a Yankees senior vice president pleaded guilty to attempted steroid distribution charges in 2003 as part of a federal investigation into a date-rape drug, according to public records from Tampa police and Hillsborough County Court obtained by Newsday.

Felix M. Lopez III, the son of George Steinbrenner's son-in-law Felix M. Lopez Jr., was charged with trafficking illegal steroids in 2002, a first-degree felony that was punishable by up to life in prison. Lopez III, 30, cut a plea deal in which he received three years of probation for pleading guilty to possession with intent, which is a second-degree felony, according to Hillsborough County Court records.

In an interview with Newsday on Friday, the Yankees senior vice president said he stands by his son. But he said his son will never work for the Yankees because of his past and the negative perception it would create. "Sometimes kids make mistakes," Lopez Jr. said.

According to the arrest record filed with the Tampa police department, police obtained several bottles and more than 50 vials of anabolic steroids, as well as two boxes with six bottles of the drug GBL when they raided Lopez's Tampa apartment on Sept. 18, 2002. GBL is commonly referred to as an illegal date-rape drug but also has been used by athletes as a steroid alternative.

Police also found an unloaded shotgun in the apartment.

One of the vials tested positive for the steroid boldenone undecylenate, according to a laboratory report by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, obtained by Newsday. The steroid, which had been developed for veterinary use, is used by bodybuilders. Other vials tested positive for gamma-Butyrolactone or GBL, the precursor of the date-rape drug GHB, according to the lab report.

Charles Massucci, a Tampa detective who arrested Lopez III as part of a federal crackdown on date-rape drugs, said in a telephone interview Friday that bodybuilders were into taking GBL because they believed it induced a deep sleep that aided muscle growth.

Lopez III was among 115 people arrested in 80 cities in raids in 2002, according to DEA spokesman Rusty Payne. Lopez III's arrest came in connection with "Operation Webslinger," a federal investigation into the sale of date-rape drugs on the Internet.

Detective Massucci and a postal inspector went to the apartment Lopez III was living in at the time with a package that had been mailed to a woman at that address, according to the police record obtained by Newsday. The package had been intercepted and opened by officials and found to contain vials of GBL.

When the postal inspector, disguised as a letter carrier, arrived at the front door with the package, he was met by Lopez III, who said the package was for him. Massucci and other law enforcement officials were waiting with a search warrant, and when Lopez III entered the apartment, they knocked on the door, entered, found the various drugs and arrested him, according to police records.

Efforts to reach Lopez III were unsuccessful, and his attorney did not return a call for comment.

Lopez Jr. was not with the Yankees in 2002. He married Steinbrenner's daughter, Jessica, in 2004 and was a senior vice president beginning the next baseball season.

He has become more visible with the organization in recent years, responsible mostly for the state of the spring-training facility in Tampa. Lopez Jr. has been a part of all the major organizational meetings in recent years, including the ones in which they decided Joe Torre's fate after the 2007 season.

Yankees Robinson Cano has high praise for Angel Presinal
By Kat OBrien / Newsday
Saturday, February 21, 2009 - Added 5m ago

TAMPA, Fla. Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano has nothing but love for Angel "Nao" Presinal, the Dominican trainer who has been banned from major-league clubhouses for his links to steroids.

Presinal is a curious figure. Major League Baseball wants nothing to do with him, but he is popular and widely used in the Dominican Republic. In fact, he was a strength and conditioning coach for the Dominican team during the 2006 World Baseball Classic. Alex Rodriguez, who admitted long-term steroid use last week, was linked to Presinal on Friday by the New York Daily News.

On Friday, Presinal told ESPNdeportes.com: "I did work with Alex during that period of time, just like I helped all of my fellow Dominicans. He used to look for me. But I wasnt working with him on an exclusive basis. I was rotating between players and teams.

"I have never advised a player (to take steroids); I have never talked about steroids with any athlete, with any baseball player. I just wish there was someone out there with the courage to accuse me directly. That will never happen because folks respect me."

Cano worked out with Presinal in the 2007-08 offseason after an oblique muscle strain. Said Cano: "I heard about him, and how good he is. Every Dominican (player) knows him."

Presinal has worked with many of the top players in the Dominican Republic, and Cano was thrilled with how he recovered from his injury. He said he worked out with Presinal nearly daily a year ago and got back to full strength.

There have been negative reports about Presinal since a 2001 incident in which a bag filled with steroids reportedly belonging to Presinals client, former All-Star outfielder Juan Gonzalez, was found at a Toronto airport. No charges were filed in the incident, but MLB has considered Presinal persona non grata since.

Cano acknowledged having heard talk of steroids from TV reports but said he also knows the results other players have obtained through working with Presinal.

"To tell you the truth, I dont care about what happened with him in the past," Cano said. "I would say I know what Ive got to do, and I know that he can help me."

Many players use Presinal while returning from injury, Cano said, adding that he would gladly work with Presinal again if he felt the need.

The reason he did not work with Presinal this winter aside from the fact that he was healthy is that Cano lives in San Pedro de Macoris and Presinal in Santo Domingo. The round-trip drive of two to three hours daily for workouts takes a toll, and Cano preferred to work out closer to home.

Cano said he didnt worry about the risk of being tainted as "guilty by association" because he knows he hasnt done anything wrong. He would not comment on whether Rodriguez is associated with Presinal but confirmed that he had seen Presinal around the team in the past couple of seasons not in any official capacity but in places such as the team hotel, at the gym or in restaurants in cities in which the Yankees were playing.

Several other Yankees from the Dominican Republic Melky Cabrera, Damaso Marte and non-roster infielder Angel Berroa said they are familiar with Presinal but have not worked with him.

Presinal also has worked with a few current and former Mets. Luis Castillo said he used to work out with him but "not anymore." Jose Reyes said he knows him from the 2006 Dominican WBC team.

Mets general manager Omar Minaya said Presinal works with a lot of athletes in the Dominican, not just baseball players. Asked if the Mets or MLB had told players not to work out with him, Minaya said, "I dont know if you can do that." (Ed: That's such a Steve Phillips answer.)

Presinals roster of current and former famous clients include former Mets Pedro Martinez and Moises Alou and former Yankee Ruben Sierra, as well as David Ortiz [stats], Vladimir Guerrero, Bartolo Colon, Miguel Tejada, Adrian Beltre and Jose Guillen, according to reports.

Staff writers David Lennon and Anthony Rieber contributed to this story.

(Ed: Hey, Kat O'Brien, you don't need no Lennon, and you sure don't need no Rieber.)
