Redding was 10-11 for the Nats and according to an article I read this morning, his bullpen blew 7 leads for him last year.

Why wouldn't the Nats offer him a contract?

Article (NYTimes) also said that his signing will not effect the teams pursuit of Lowe and/or Perez.

-He and Santana were teammates in the Astros minor league system.

-He and Beltran were on the 'Stros together.

-He and Church and Schneider were teammates on the Nats.

That's all I got.

He should be okay as a fifth starter, but his signing almost assures that Niese will head up the staff in Buffalo. Now get a solid starter to slip into the rotation. Lowe, Perez, or Sheets would do nicely. I no longer see Wolf as an option, since Redding just took his possible spot in the rotation.

Maybe he can repeat that, and by then Niese will be ready. Or maybe some better pitchers will get signed for less money by other teams. The best thing I can say for Redding is that he should give the Mets more out of the fifth starter spot than Pedro did last year (or would this year). But that's really saying little.
