Didn't see Stripes, but remember thinking I'd probably hate it. Loved E.T., so it gets my vote.

I loved E.T. a lot less when I watched it again many years later. (A VHS of E.T., purchased for my young son, was the last thing I ever bought at Woolworth's.)

The first 45 minutes or so of Stripes were great, the rest of the film not so much. ET was probably a better movie start to finish.

But, if given a choice of watching either of these movies RIGHT NOW! I go with Stripes.

I got overSpielberged with ET.

Stripes was g-r-e-a-t for the first hour, complete garbage after that. But it had cool music.

STRIPES is an ocasionally funny service comedy, up until they decide to raid Chekoslavakia, at which point the stupidity overwhelms the comedy.

E.T. is a global touchstone. Emotionally manipulative, yes, but so are most successful works.

i vote for sentiment over stupidity, and superb craft over sporadic competence.

Yes. But I'm more voting against the competition in those matchups than I am voting for those films.

I voted for Road Warrior and Pee Wee also (and Pee Wee losing is a travesty, a travesty I say). I saw ET when it came out and couldn't wait for that puppet to die -- never saw Stripes so I have to abstain.
