soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Poltergeist for me.Loved the dead indians (or was iot just regular dead people?) coming out of the pool.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Two movies that I saw during their original release!I got a big kick out of Poltergeist. Lethal Weapon, not so much.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 The last twenty minutes of Lethal Weapon was insane. They almost had a movie there, then everything got stupid.I don't want to talk about any time I've wasted in hotel rooms staring at the sequels, but I do tip my hat to Richard Donner for giving Darlene Love work.Funny Richard Donner trivia: One of the live-action serials on The Banana Splits Show was called "Danger Island," which you may remember, if you watched the Splits, for it's ridiculously fast editing."What's this?""A message!""We've got to get to the other side of the island!"(Cut to other side of island.)"What's that?""A boat!""We've got to get into the hold!"(Cut to hold of boat.)"What's that?"...Anyhow, "Danger Island" was directed by Richard F. Donner.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Poltergeist scared the shit out of me and caused me to run out of the theater. I was never able to watch Lethal Weapon all the way through.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 The use of Poltergeist in the new Direct TV ad is extra creepy because the cute little girl is dead. I don't like scary movies but I voted against Mel Gibson.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 The sassy older girl is dead also. They'd have done well to shelve the franchise after this film. That, of course, is true of three quarters of our contestants.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 The guy who peeled his face off in the bathroom scared the bejeezus out of me. I was 9 years old.Another no-brainer. Most of these first rounders are just that.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 As between these two, I'm going with Poltergeist.

Guest Vince Coleman Firecracker Guests Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 The first woman I was ever attracted to was JoBeth Williams in Poltergeist.Strangely, she does nothing for me now.The second woman on my list didn't really hold up well, either:
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 JoBeth Williams showed up last season on Dexter. She still looked fairly attractive. (Better than she does in that photo!)

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 She was Rita's mom. The one who didn't like Dexter.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Wow. It never even registered with me that that was her.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Her career started late, so she skipped the whole "young hottie" phase and went straight to playing MILFs, from her naked big-screen debut in KRAMER V KRAMER, to POLTERGEIST, to BIG CHILL. When she aged out of that, she was stuck with TV movies and guest appearances.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I forever associate JoBeth with "The Day After".
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I remember JoBeth Williams back from Somerset.I used to watch a lot of soaps....
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I was kinda into the Mom too. I liked how the ghosts threw her onto the wall and ceiling.Lethal Weapon was fun but I can't help but dock it points for creating the whole "buddy movie" genre.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 The Ghost in you, she don't fade: 16-10 is your final.
