4th time this matchup has been the National League Championship Series.

1977 and 1978 it went to the Dodgers, and 1983 the Phillies won it.

Of course playoff style baseball between these two franchises go all the way back to the Whiz Kids of 1950 beating out the Brooklyn Dodgers on the final day of the regular season.

I won't be having an original thought here, I'll be borrowing bmfc's.

I'm abstaining from the NLCS, and will root for the AL Champs. If it isn't either the Angels or the Red Sox.

I'll copy from bmfc's paper also.

I will continue to root for the meteor to hit the Earth.

Either way it stinks -- the Torre/Manny vs. the AL crap (don't care don't care don't care) or the damn insufferable Phillies fans.

Dodgers. First time I've ever rooted for them.

Go Dodgers! I hope they sweep the Phillies aside like you did the Cubs.

Dodgers. I don't hate them as much as it seems most people here do AND I believe that Torre was treated poorly by the Yanks, so I suspect he doesn't like them so much. . .which makes him okay in my book.

So the choice for me is easy.

Phillies got 3 votes now? Okay, I assume one is MFS62 due to the whole having his heart and soul ripped out of him 50 years ago and all, so who are the other two? SHOW YOURSELVES!

I've talked myself into supporting the Dodgers, on the hope they'd then be blown away in the World Series. That way Colletti's job will still be secure for a long time and they can go directly back into the tank, because there's no way that jackass is going to luck into one of the best hitters in the history of the game again.

Steve, you root American League? Yikes.

You realize the pile of evidence is growning.

I've often found myself rooting for the AL team in the World Series. I have no loyalty to the National League. I root for the Mets. That doesn't affect my feelings for the other 15 teams in the league.

I'm sure I'll end up rooting for the AL team this time around, except, perhaps, if it ends up Red Sox-Dodgers.

In 1970 I decided to root for the Orioles over the Reds, because A) they lost the previous year; and B) I lived in Maryland for two years when I was very young.

My mom and grandfather were aghast, and gave me many a lecture about living in a National League household.

I stuck to my guns, though. I'll root for a team in the World Series based on a variety of factors. If the NL team is one whom I particularly didn't like during the season, I'm much more likely to pick the AL in the Series.

I like both these teams well enough, either will represent the good guys with honor in WS I suppose.

Dodgers: Arms, arms and arms. A few good young position players, mainly homegrown, and Manny. I don't much like Manny as a guy, but I do like wtaching him hit.

Phillies: Like the Dodgers, largely homegrown with a few key outsiders. Built the way I'd like to see the Mets built, with at least one excellent bench player not forced to play everyday (Dobbs) and a solid bullpen.

I guess the Dodgers would have a slight edge in this series, perhaps erased by Philly homefield.

Hope it goes 7.

I'll go Dodgers. Aside from the classy duds and rooting for Torre to make the Yankees look foolish, they have some colorful freaks in Manny and Broxton.

Still, with Lowe, Manny, Maddux and such, there's a lot of guys here I wouldn't want to spend a weekend at the beach with.
