On the replay in 6 months, sure.

Which players are NOT going to be back.

In all seriousness, I'm so far away from other Mets fans. This is as close as I get to watching a game with friends. Gentleman, this season has been a pleasure to spend with you, I appreciate having all you and I thank you.

Does this even really count as a collapse? I mean, did any of us really think they were going to win anything this season? Just, I don't know, but I think from an objective standpoint, this team wasn't good enough to make the playoffs. When Maine and Wagner were done, we were done.

This one doesn't hurt like last season did. This one is just a big, hollow void of suck.

You're further away, even than I am, to be sure...don't go away we have fun all winter too

Solace: Since the start of the 2005 season, the Mets have played 648 regular-season games. They have been in playoff contention at the start of 644 of those.

Imagine rooting for a team that's eliminated by Labor Day every year.

Letting a bunch of pissed off fans tear the stadium apart would be fitting. And fair.

Yeah, I am not nearly as shaken right now as I was last season. I am sad, but I am not as mad. I don't think it counts as a collapse, but that doesn't matter when it comes to the media and the idiotic fans who lap it up.

They pretty much got what they deserved.

Bad as the pen was, we scored five runs all weekend. Can't do that and win.

"They pretty much got what they deserved"

Yup!

When you win one series since early Sept (they split several) and then score 5 runs in the final weekend it's tough to blame luck, or injuries, or karma, or whatever.

Damn, TBS isn't showing the ceremony.

FUCK.

You know what? Oh well. Let the Cubs get their championship this year. If I had to choose between a Mets championship and an Obama presidency, I'd choose an Obama presidency. The Mets always have next year. The country only has now.

The Mets finished one game better than last year. And look at where we were earlier this year - mired in mediocrity, flirting with .500. And we came back to being in contention until the final day of the season. We allowed Shea's last game to be a meaningful one - something the MFYs didn't get for their overrated concrete monstrosity.

I warned about the bullpen all offseason last year. It did us in two years in a row now. It needs drastic improvement.

Next year we move into a new ballpark, with a blank slate. Let's inaugurate it next year with a Mets championship.

Let's go Mets!

I'm almost 50. I have a great wife, two incredible kids, a decent job, both of my parents are still alive, and I'm almost crying. I love the Mets far too much, far more than they've repaid me, us, but that's OK. Wright can console himself with his model girlfriend and his millions. For us, from March on, the Mets help fill up our days. They allow me to share special moments with my sons, and talk to you, most of whom I will never have the good fortune to meet. The Mets allow me to jump up and down like I'm a kid and I feel so bad right now. I know you do too.

That makes absolutely, certainly, definitely, positively, really, thoroughly, truly, unequivocally, wholly, doubtlessly, undoubtedly no sense.

I mean, even if Obama was a Cubs fan it wouldn't make any sense. He's a White Sox fan. But still. Like. Uh. What the hell?

You are wise beyond your years, Vlad. Very, very nice.

The crowd is picking up a bit in the ceremony.

Glad I am watching it, it has lifted my spirits a bit

The ceremony really helped. It put the season into a larger context of Mets history. It hurts sometimes, but I'm still glad to be a Mets fan.

Two things about the otherwise very nice closing ceremony:

I imagined that Jose Reyes and David Wright would come out at the end and take home plate to the new place. That didn't happen but it would have been nice to have at least one of the young stars, flaws and all, participate in the ceremony.

"Florida players came out to collect dirt from the basepaths." ([u:311b9d4340]NY Times[/u:311b9d4340].) Are you kidding me?

I left.

Was in no mood to celebrate Shea Stadium, the dog-ass Mets or anything else.

I'm glad this lousy season is over. Now I don't have to watch this sorry excuse for a bullpen blow another game for at least 6 months.
