One of the folks here sent me two messages yesterday asking (OK, the second was closer to begging) that I start today's IGT on account of being the IGT starter for Saturday's sucessful day. But, as Maxwell Smart used to say, "you've got to get up pretty early in the morning" around here if you want to be first.

Well, that's OK, I never was the superstitious type. Although this may remind some a bit of the scene in 'Jeremiah Johnson' when Redford's title character is asked to lead a rescue party across Souix land to free a stranded band of settlers.
"We can't go through here" Jeremiah told them, "this is a sacred burial ground, the Souix guard it with powerful spirits."
"You've been up here in the mountains too long Johnson", one of the party protested, "you can't possibly believe that"
"Doesn't matter" he answered, "they do".

Anyway, it's Scott Olsen vs Ollie Perez and we all know what's at stake.

Olsen has started 4 times against us this season and is 0-3 with one 'ND'
* 5/28 (against Perez) - ND, 4 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings
* 7/29 (also vs OP) - L, 2 runs on 6 hits over 5.2 IP
* 8/9 - L, 5 runs on 9 hits over 5 IP
* 8/31 - L, 6 runs on 7 hits over 6.1 IP

Mets vs Olsen this season:
Reyes - 5 for 13 including 2 2B + 1 HR
Beltran - 5 for 10 inc 2 2B + 1 HR
Wright - 4 for 11 inc 3 2B + 1 HR
Evans - 6 for 10 inc 1 2B + 1 HR
Delgado - 1 for 8, 1 HR
Easley - 2 for 9

Ollie's pitched 5 times against the Fish this season and is 3-0.
* 4/3 - a win for 5 innings of shutout ball
* 5/28 - ND for 5 runs over 6 innings
* 7/29 - W for 1 run over 6 innings
* 8/8 - W after 7 innings of 2-hit shutout ball
* 8/29 - ND, 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits & 5 BBs in 6 IP

Marlins vs Perez:
Ramirez - 4 for 11 + 4 BB
Uggla - 1 for 13
Cantu - 1 for 13, 1 HR
Ross - 5 for 13, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR
Helms - 1 for 10, 1 2B
Winningham - 3 for 8, 1 2B, 1 HR
Hermida - 0 for 9

So Gabba, Gabba, Shea!

Oh yeah, and go Cubs

Wow, crazy lineup.

Has Wright batted out of the 3 hole at all this year? I don't think he has.

Has Delgado batted above 4 all year? Pretty sure this is a no too.

Evans in the 5 hole?

Craziness.

]Olsen, who starts Sunday, said he didn't understand all the fuss.

"It's not that good of a stadium for me," he said. "I would think there would be more tears when they close down Yankee Stadium than Shea Stadium."

You know, I didn't even turn on yesterday's game until 5th inning. I noticed that Beltran was batting second, but didn't make note of Delgado and Wright being "switched." I remember thinking something was odd about it, but I thought it was Beltran. . .and I was too busy freaking out and praying that Santana would get to pitch the whole game.

*** Game being televised on TBS for youse outta-towners ***

Raining a bit here at the moment

Lost in our giddiness over Johan and our worry over Ollie is fact that we've scored a total of three runs over the first two games of this series.
We gots to get our hitting shoes on.

Yeah it's quite fun , Maz seems to be in his element.

The picture wasn't that big when I found it--that's what she said--but it got bigger when I brought it here--that's what she said.

I must be channeling my 15 year old son.

Biggest Mets game of the season, and I get a broadcasting team led by Chip Caray.

Beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

Chip Caray and that unabashed Yankee ballwasher Verducci. Bleh.

I have EI and I will watch the fuzzy SNY picture even though I have TBS HD. Chip Carey is a moron.

Thanks for the heads up on TBS. I really didn't expect to be able to see this game.
This is a treat (no thanks to the Mets themselves tho, who should be airing this on CW11 so all can watch this final game at Shea)

WOOO HOOOOO I get to watch the game!!!! I'm so excited about this!!

Except for freaking Yankee hack Tom Verducci.

In his SI article, Verducci claime that YSII was talking to him, "I'm dying."

Shea is talking to him, too. It says "GET... OUT!"
