MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 For filling in capably when needed. You provided some memorable moments this year.I hope you fully recover and will be a contributor to the team next year. Please share your thoughts about him.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He bailed this team out more than anyone else not part of the opening day crew - and considerably better than some of those too.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Made me think Omar knew what he was doing.
Guest mario25 Guests Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He can be a valuable guy as a spot starter at 1b,3b and the corner outfields next year. Not a starter but a great complimentary guy. He was super this year.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I remember this one time he played a shallow liner off the bat of Odalis Perez all wrong. No really. Had a nice unexpected year. Almost made you forget that Moises Alou was supposed to be on this team
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 When he came up spitting hot fire I was sure he was just a flash in the pan. After he went into a big slump I patted myself on the back. And then he proved me wrong. Thanks Fernando. Don't EVER dive for a ball again.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He provided an unexpected boost to the Mets when the teram truly needed it. He could be a good spot starter and a righthanded bat with power off the bench next season.I wish him a speedy and complete recovery. I hope to see him back with the team in 2009.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 The thing about Tatis is that, for all the lines about how he was here only on account of being "one of Omar's boys", he spent all of 2007 in the minors and began this year there also with no guarantee that he ever was going to be called up even though he was playing reasonably well down there. Not a lot of guys his age would do that and, when finally given the chance, he took advantage of it.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 They didn't say so explicitly, but I assume he's out for the entire month of October, too? No chance that he'd be better by the World Series, should we be so fortunate?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Pretty sure he gets thanked in this song....thank you Fernando.

Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 If we had to do it all again, I would my friend, Fernando.

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He played hard and capably in positions he was not familiar with. And he did it like a player who had to give his all just to stay on the ball club. Not a lot of 30+ year old guys with his career would be willing to do that.Oh, and he had some monster hits for this team.If he never plays for the Mets again I wish him well in his church-building endeavors.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I proudly added a Fernando Tatis autographed card to my Mets collection last week; he exceeded my expectations more than anyone else this season.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I would like to see him back, though we may not, with all the Mets youth in the outfield. If he's gone, he won't be forgotten.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 The final numbers on the Fernando Tatis revival: .297/.369/.484 in 306 plate appearences, 92 games. he drove in 47 and scored 33..308/.460/.590 in "close and late" situations according to baseball reference.
Guest attgig Guests Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 what's up with the mets in LF this year?Moises - hernia/calfPagan - separated shoulder going over the railing in LATatis - separated shoulder diving for a junk ball in DCanyways.thanks Tatis. you were awesome this year.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 His game-tying (8-8) ninth-inning homer on July 26 against the Cardinals, part of a 3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2-walk night was downright electrifying. The next day I believe they showed a stat that all of his homers came from the sixth inning on. Maybe the most unlikely contributor to a Mets season since Rick Reed in 1997.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Daily News today is reporting that Tatis' injury may not be as severe as was first thought, and he might even be available to play in time for the NLCS, should the Mets qualify.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 If the Mets make the NLCS don't count Fernando out , per Rubin today, Mets officials hope he can attempt baseball activities in two or three weeks.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 The July 6th homerun in the 12th against the Phillies after Billy blew the save in the 9th.http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/wrap.jsp?ymd=20080706&content_id=3078793&vkey=wrapup2005&fext=.jsp&team=away&c_id=nym
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I go back to the May 28th game against Florida as my favorite. In what was his 8th game as a Met and only 3rd start, his 2-RBI 2B into the LF corner with 1 out in the 12th scored both Wright & Beltran to knock off the first-place Fish after they had taken a lead on an Amezega HR off Sanchez in the top.Wayne Hagin: Wright scores to tie the game and now all eyes turn to Beltran ...
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 All of these are good--boy, have there been a lot of great moments this season. It would be a shame to have all of these memories superseded by a bad finish. Come on Mets!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 You know, I just realized that Tatis was pretty much David Wright's backup at third base. And I would suppose that Easley was next on the depth chart. So, now what? If David needs a rest, or gets ejected from a game, or something like that, who do we put at third base?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Murphy has played 3rd in the minors. Ramon Martinez too, maybe?
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 They specifically changed Murph's position from third because of his bat and there was no way he'd be with the big club otherwise I thought. I'm sure he could fill in, though I'd hate that he'd have to.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I think Argenis would be the backup at third.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I figure Murphy would play third if it came to that, but I really hope that's not necessary.Tatis turned out to be an asset, shaky outfield defense notwithstanding. I'd like to see him back with the team next year. It may cost Evans a spot, but I think Evans would benefit from steady AB's in AAA anyway.
Guest attgig Guests Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 although it really looks like DW could use a day off! =(
