No, I'm not deliberately looking ahead...but MLB did release the 2009 schedules for each team today.

Highlights:
Interleague games against the AL East.
Home vs. MFYs and Tampa
Road games at Boston, Baltimore and MFYs.

Instead of an extra interleague opponent, we get an extra series against the Cardinals.

Home opener against San Diego.

Weekend road series in San Francisco, Boston, San Diego, Chicago, Washington and Philadelphia are all attractive travel options.

Yes, it is early. In the past, some teams had released their schedules earlier than others. Guess MLB just standardized it this year.

The Mets were @ Boston in '06 and they will be again next year. I thought that the next round of interleague play was supposed to be in the opposite location from the last round.

Marty Noble has a brief article on the Mets website that notes some of the games-- Opening DAY in Cincy, opening NIGHT at CitiF.

="Frayed Knot"]Do we know the times of games from that list?

The schedule that Adam Rubin posted has them. So many of them are subject to change however.

AZ opens with 18 out of the first 21 at home. That's quite an advantage, isn't it?

Yeah, but then they're on the road -- and all across the country, from New York to San Francisco -- for 26 of 35 from late July to early September, so it balances a bit.

bugsandcranks.com has this on the schedule:

Yeah, I know the 2008 season is not over yet (except in places like the Bronx), but Major League Baseball has just released its 2009 schedule, and Id like to make a few general comments, observations, and what the [fs].

* The Yankees are opening their new stadium againstthe [f'in] Cleveland Indians? OK, fine, dont open the House That A-Rod Built against the Red Sox. No big deal. But would it be so hard to open up against one of the other teams from this division? Ya know, the Rays, Os or Blue Jays? No disrespect to Indians fans, but well, we kicked your team out of the American League East several years ago. You dont deserve to open our stadiums.

* The Mets are opening their new stadium againstthe [f'in] San Diego Padres? You know whos the National League version of the Cleveland Indians? The San Diego Padres (roughly). I got an idea why dont the Padres and the Indians play each other during these scheduled series, while the Mets and Yankees open their respective ballparks against each other? Again, would it really be that difficult toah, [f] it, Bud Selig is a moron. God forbid you launch billion-dollar stadiums with marquee games between teams with history. What history is there between the Indians and Yankees? Between the Mets and the Padres? The NFL wouldnt have [f'd] this up. After all, whod the Colts open against in their new stadium? Thats right, the Bears.

* The Mets dont play the Phillies at all in April, but then face them five times in seven days between May 1-7. Three of the games are in Philly, two are in New York. Now THAT is overkill.

Disappointed not to close against Florida.

BMFC- i have no interest in opening a stadium with stupid interleague play, if anything i'd want to open with a traditional rival like the Cubs or Phillies

I agree. I was quoting someone else. The beginning and end of the season should be against divisional foes... although the last series shouldn't be against Florida.
