Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Francisco Rodriguez just set the new single-season record for saves with his 58th.You know what makes me happiest about this? Mariano Rivera never set the saves record.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 [yankeesfan]Mariano lost out on plenty of save situations because the amazing Yankees offense was blowing teams away by 7 or 8 runs a night!!11!![/yankeesfan]

Saves are a pretty meaningless stat, and the only HOFer that has held the all-time single season saves record is a debatable one in Sutter.Willie Mays never set the single season homer record, in fact did Mays ever actually own AN all-time single season record? Many consider him the greatest of all-time.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 My point is I hate Mariano Rivera and anything associated with the MFYs since the mid-'90s.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 BFD though is my point. Rivera still is the greatest closer of all time.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I like you Val, but I swear you try too hard sometimes to "fit" in around here with some of your stuff.

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2008 Author Posted September 14, 2008 Oh Steve, Steve, Steve...Let me tell you a story. When I was growing up in New Jersey, I was the only Mets fan out of all of my friends. By the time I became a fervent Mets fan, it was 1997, and I was 10 years old. I rode in a carpool with my friends to school. I ate lunch with them every day. All of them were Yankee fans. The one topic we talked about most? Baseball. Year after year, I had to suffer through the "Yankee Dynasty" growing up. They'd lord it over me every single year when the Yankees would be better than the Mets. And during the offseason, they'd never let me forget it. It was torture, Steve. Absolute fucking torture. Luis Gonzalez's bloop hit in 2001 was one of the happiest moments of my life. I ran screaming through my house because the MFYs had lost the World Series. But then the Mets began to royally stink, and I left home before the Mets would become good again. I have been waiting for the Yankees to miss the playoffs since I was a little kid. Growing up as the only Mets fan in town was hell. So don't tell me I'm "trying to fit in". I hate the fucking Yankees.

Its a stupid and immature way of showing your sports hate.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 i don't think the answer to 2) above is going to change in any way val's hate of mariano and all yankees, steve.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 How about this reason to hate him: He electrified his pool in order to kill his neighbor's dog. Fun fact: He didn't kill the dog, but two people instead! LOL! What a guy!

The fact that I've been dealing with asshole cousins, friends, co-workers, etc flashing the number of titles in my face doesn't mean anything to you?The fact that I wore a FUCKING BRAVES CAP during the 1996 World Series and was tomahawk chopping the entire time, taunting Yankee fans up at Fairfield University doesn't mean anything?I hate the Yankees, I hate their fans, I hate that stadium, I can't wait for an era like 1982-1994 to happen again, just so all those bandwagon jumpers can feel just how rooting for a team is supposed to feel.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Actually it was the part of a pretty sweet MLB cap collection I had going back then. Which included some throwbacks as well, and I used it in heavy rotation during the offseason. After college though I ran out of room in my place, so they had to go to Goodwill.
