Guest AG/DC Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Cancel, Casanova, Molina, DiFelice, Tom Wilson --- a whole community of journeyman catchers who owe Castro thank you cards for the big-league coffee they've tasted.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Wilson predated Castro.Kelly Stinnett in '06.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Pedro gets two quick outs in the first.Mets wearing black. They look more like Pirates than Mets.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Pirates batting Mienkiewicz third. They look more like Mets than Pirates.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Casanova appears to be tearing it up at AAA, I'm a little surprised he's not up.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 The most basic requirement of a backup catcher is to be reliably healthy enough so that you don't have to carry TWO backup catchers ... especially in the era of 7-8 man bullpens, resulting in shortened benches. And, at this point, where it appears we are platooning at 4 out of 8 positions, tying up a bench slot with a 3rd catcher makes us even less adaptable. I like Ramon well enough, and he's hit better over the last few years than I thought he could, but he's just one more aging, creaky player with whom we've got to cut ties after the season.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 We're getting more rain and hail in midtown right now. I hope they didn't start this game too early (requiring another delay).

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 it's slowing down again, but the weather has been practically apocalyptic today.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Three-run bomb from Wright in the first!Nice start to this game!
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Quick: start making quick intentional outs.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 According to gameday, David hit that homer off the scoreboard. Anyone watching on TV?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Molly Beers for everyone!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Me. If it hit the scoreboard, it just grazed the bottom.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Sheesh. Somebody might want to go get Duke, but who wants to burn their bullpen on a game like this?

Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 How long ago was this game originally scheduled? Jorge Sosa pitched the next game in the series.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 That's a 16" break on Pedro's 69 MPH curve.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Is Gamecast correct? Did Pedro really have a 12 pitch at-bat?

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Hey, Cancel cleared the pitcher and extended a rally. I was going to pull him from the game and send him to New Orleans immediately had he not.
