Have the Mets ever swept a three-game set by shutout?

Something says 1979 to me.

Really?

That would be very surprising.

I'll have to see if I can find anything in the UMDB.

Slowish day at work, so I checked 1977-1984 on bbref. No three-game series swept by shutout, though the Mets won three consecutive shutouts June 13-15, 1984.

I'm either confusing the years, or possibly recalling the Mets being swept by shutout over three games circa 1979.

Which wouldn't be very surprising.

September 1969 against the Phillies:

5-0, 1-0, 2-0. (And prior to those three games, they beat the Cardinals 6-0.

That was the only time they ever had four shutouts in a row.)

They had three in a row five times, once earlier that same September, then again in May of 1970, June of 1984, May of 1985, and April of 1988. But none of those were series sweeps.

We ain't sweeping anything as long as Maine is walking the opposing pitcher and the freeswinging leadoff hack.

Well, that's what you get for walking the pitcher and the leadoff hitter to start an inning :(

OK, boys Time to loosen up, grow some beards, play with kids, and go out and beat up some Giants.

You know this all was caused by premature consultation with the record books on consecutive shutouts.

I'd take that one on mice elf, but I didn't bring it up until the first run was yielded.

Oh, and please don't pull a perfectly good pitcher after five only to have a professional hitter go up there and bunt. I hate that.

Do I ever despise the bunt there. Bring in a pinch-hitter in a tie game in the 6th(!), to bunt a very slow-footed runner to second who can't score on most singles anyway. Blech.

He was hitting for Muniz, not Maine.

But I do agree that it's a waste of a bench player, a commodity that's become too rare with the growth of the standard pitching staff.

Ironically, premature consultation can often be fixed by thinking about baseball.

Oh wait, what?

Ironically, I just climaxed over Fernando Tatis

Tatis is hitting like its 1999.*

Later

*= Yes, that was a Prince reference. (Sorry if someone has used it before)

That was awesome.

Just back from a 2-Guinness lunch, flip on the Slingbox to see Tatis coming up with Wright on second. Gotta piss so I can't watch the at-bat. Run to the bathroom, come back having missed two pitches, first pitch I see - KABOOM!

Oh yeah.

Shoddy fielding lets the Mets tack on another run :)

My boss walks in on me and quickly minimize my gameday screen showing a 3-3 tie with Wright on second.

I pretend to care deeply about what she's saying, nod, smile, backslap, ass kiss, whatev.

Soon's she leaves, I check my nose for brown matter, re-ope' the window, and we're up 6-3, sisters and brothers.

We score again as I type! We go up by four, Billy Wagner sees his save total staying the same for another day.
