Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Moises Alou left last night's minor league game with hamstring "cramping." How Zabka-esque.:sighs audibly:
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 From the Snooze.]Before hearing of the latest setback, Jerry Manuel was asked yesterday if Alou should take advantage of the All-Star break rather than try to return this weekend. "Take advantage of the break?" Manuel deadpanned. "He hasn't played in two months!"
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 The Mets should just schedule "Moises Alou Day" and get it over with.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Characteristics of Moises Alou day:No one shows up to work. Everyone gets paid anyway.Someone strains an eyelid blinking.Smelly hands.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 They really need to come off that position that they'll replace Church and Alou from within. It's entirely possible that neither one will be back at all this year. (I hope that's not the case, especially for Church, but it is possible.)Endy's been doing a nice job lately, but how far will this team go with him as their second-best outfielder? And a lot of starts from guys like Evans and Anderson and Tatis? They really do need to make a move, and they have three weeks left before the July 31 deadline.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I wanted to post a photo of Raul Ibanez, my latest trade crush, and found this one online:The photo's weird and I don't understand the lolcats caption, but I like the look inside the scoreboard there with the numbers hanging on the wall. Is that Camden or Safeco? Either way, I want to sit right there.Either way, I vote Ibanez.
Guest attgig Guests Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Which corner outfielder? and how much do we spend?holliday would obviously be a great addition, but do we give up martinez for him (can't imagine him costing any less)we don't have much of a farm, so who can we realistically get without giving up martinez? dunn? do we really want dunn?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 ="attgig"]that's safeco.Yeah. The Orioles are wearing grey, and the Seattle outfielder has white pants.Fernando Martinez isn't the Mets only trade chip. He might be required to bring back a star, but I'd be satisfied with someone who's somewhere between Carlos Beltran and Endy Chavez.

Either way, I want to sit right there.Either way, I vote Ibanez.Nothing sums up what's been wrong with the O's for the last year better than the girly men on the bullpen bench rolling over and covering up. Guys, one of your own just went yard, stand up and act like you care. You've had 3-4 seconds since this was struck to get up and clear out, but you just sat there bored popping sunflower seeds, hoping no flying things come your way to disturb your bliss.
Guest attgig Guests Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 but of course, this year, the o's bullpen has been pretty solid. maybe they're not so girly anymore. In terms of OF'ers available that I would want on the team:HollidayNadyIbanezGiles (give up little to nothing for his salary?)or FA:Reggie SandersKenny Loftonthat's my list of who'd i would consider seeing in a mets uni.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I think Holliday costs too much and is a butcher in the field and on the bases. If Colorado is selling how about Brad Hawpe instead?Nady is OK, but I'm afraid sentiment values him way over his actual retail value. I mean, even if he's OK, and there's no reason to belive he won't be OK, people will think he's capable of more and expect it from him. That's a little dangerous. Plus he will cost a lot right now.Ibanez I like -- a little too old but solid and predictable and (ooops) lefty.Giles won't come, I wouldn't think, and he's a lot less than he used to be.Sanders I sort of like. Too old, frequently hurt, but at his cost (zero) always worth a shot and a nice player if he's all together. I'm less into Lofton but don;t object if they want to invite him in for a look.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Giles most certainly won't come. I believe he has veto power over trades and only wants to play in SoCal. I'm with Seawolf and also vote Ibanez. I might be wrong but I think he's a free agent after this season so shouldn't cost all that much to pry him from Seattle and last year he had a monster second half after a so-so first half. Go get him, Omar.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Jon Heyman is saying on SNY (right now!) that the Mets might pursue Juan Rivera of the Angels.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I'd consider Randy Winn as well. Bowker is a natural right fielder playing out of position at first, so the Giants would probably move Winn for a young first baseman. We could afford to part with either Evans or Carp, and Winn would still be under contract next year for a little more than what we're currently paying Alou. He's not great, but like Ibanez he's fairly consistent, and "serviceable" would be a significant upgrade for us.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I actually meant to say that the photo spoke to the state of the O's over the last decade, not year.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 According to Heyman, Rivera is hitting .194 for the Angels.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/riverju01.shtmlHe came up with the Yanx before winding up in Anaheim - just turned 30Had a couple a pretty good mostly-full seasons including a real good one in 2006But then broke his leg (or something serious like that) and missed virtually all of '07 and has played only sparingly so far in '08He's been mentioned as a possible Met target since before the start of the season.
