Santana's really been fine all night -- I'll take 1 run over 7 anytime.
The only thing that's making it seem troublesome for him is that he keeps letting the leadoff batter on. 5 times in 7 IPs I think.

I like Miller.
I really do.

And once I got past the fact that he views everything with the exuberance of a child I began to enjoy listening to him.
He also must have the patience of a saint to work the booth with Morgan.

Every once in a while I will hear him throw in a zinger towards Joe, but he does it with such panache that Joe doesn't even realize its a zinger.
But mostly he knows he has a job to do, and its along side Morgan, and he makes the best of it and shows me he's a team player.

I like him.

And welcome aboard VCF. Nice to meetchya.

Thanks, Zvon.
Church looks like he's got the cobwebs out.

Vince: Didn't notice! Welcome aBordick!

Would be really nice to see this lineup w/a healthy Church/Alou/Castillo for a sustained time added to the regular mix. Paticularly with a hotter Reyes leading it all off.

Juan Pierre has a little Joe Morgan wing action going.

I say we keep Santana

Those two in the dirt to Kemp show me Santana's done for the night.
Smooth performance.
Smooth enough.

So he leaves with 1 run (plus two runners) on 6 hits - 5 of them singles and even the double (Pierre leading off the game) was nothing more than a well-placed bouncer - and two? walks thru 7-2/3.

I'll take it.

Smith hits Kent.
FAIL.

Bases blue for Loney and it looks like its Show time.

Posted

Willie NOT overdoing it here IMO.
Smith's gotta get his guy and, because he didn't, you've got a dangerous lefty-swinging Loney up with the bases loaded. No place for Bazooka Joe in the 8th inning even with a 5 run lead.

I like the pitching moves Willie's made this inning. I don't even mind seeing Kent get plunked.

Show has really stepped up big this year.

I wonder how much of it is Show stepping up, and how much is it Willie using him against a higher percentage of lefties this year.

But yeah, Show's been pretty awesome.

It's NOT JOE FUCKING TORRE. It's the Dodgers, it's the first weekend of the summer, it's a million things. You see Joe Fucking Torre shirts in the crowd? Yankee hats? NO. You see Mets hats, and Keith Fucking Hernandez shirts, and Russ Martin shirts for the Dodger fans, and Ricky Fucking Otero shirts. (Yes, I saw one yesterday afternoon.) Those are Mets fans, Jon & Joe. Mets fans. I know... stunning! Mets fans?!? In New York!?! But this is Yankee Country! These must all be Joe Torre fans! It has nothing at all to do with the last year of the ballpark, or Johan Santana pitching, or the fact that the team has won 4 out of 5, or because we all have man-crushes on David Wright. It's all Joe Fucking Torre.

DAMMIT, fellas. You made it until the ninth inning, then set me off.

Anythings possible.

Don't know if I'll be here for that game,....but that's also possible.

HA! ITA. Dodgers are ALWAYS a huge draw at Shea, ALWAYS. And the Dodgers will always be a huge draw at Citi Field. Has nothing to do with the skipper.

Dodgers drew big at Shea when Jim Tracy and Glenn Hoffman were the skippers!

(I'm whispering like Homer Simpson): Thank you! I doubt that Bruce will be there for me but I'll give it a shot.

Bruce is batting .591 and he jacked one today

On the nose, my friend. Brilliant. Show me the person who bought a ticket to see the manager at any game?

My loudmouth future ex-brother-in-law: Youse at da Met game? You see Torre?

Me: Yeah, he came out to change pitchers and I dropped my pants and started wanking right then and there. I was a little embarassed for myself, but then I looked around and everybody was doing it.

I wish my sister would hurry up and marry him so she could get on with divorcing him.

Great game. Found some excellent seats at cheap prices -- I may never be able to go back to the Mezzanine ever again. Couldn't believe that they actually have waiters that bring your food to your seats.

During one of the half innings, the diamondvision showed some Joe Morgan highlights and then put a shot of him in the TV booth on the screen. Plenty of boos.

The Wright-initiated DP was sweet but lots of credit to Castillo for turning it on an inaccurate throw by Wright to second.

Schoeneweis was pumped up after that groundball he induced -- big fist pump into his glove.

Beltran's homer hit the top of the GHI health plans sign, which is the advertising sign on the bottom right corner of the scoreboard.

Excellent end to the homestand. Our next seven series include the Giants, Padres, Mariners, Rockies and Rangers (five of the worst teams in baseball). Time to go on an extended run of winning series 2-1 or 3-1 (or better).

Is he a MFY fan, or just a causal baseball observer, or not even a big baseball observer at all and just knew Torre is now managing in LA and that the Mets were playing LA and/or that Torre was back in town (hard to escape with coverage in papers)?

That does sound more like something someone who isn't that big of a baseball fan would say.

I'd be surprised if attendance for LAD games differed much from the overall norm at this point.
They did in the early days of the Mets (as did the Giants) when there were still plenty of NYers who either missed 'em or hissed 'em. But now that they're gone over half-a-century I suspect most of either emotion has died out and attendance for them is nothing special and simply varies along with the normal conditions of weather, time, standings, etc.
