Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2008 Author Posted May 27, 2008 Thoughts from Shea tonight:1. Nick Evans does not look capable of hitting major league pitching. Looked badly overmatched and fooled during each of his at-bats tonight. 7 LOB to boot.2. I love Santana but wish he could take that next step from very good to great and not keep giving up the little stuff -- like the home run every start, or those 2 wild pitches in the 7th that gave away an extra run. Pitch count was a touch high as well, which is what kept him from going into the 8th. 3. I agreed with taking Santana out after 7; it's not about "growing a pair" for Willie as was suggested elsewhere in this IGT; I think it's about keeping your pitcher healthy and not pushing him too far. We had a lead and have a solid bullpen. No problem with using Sanchez there.4. Sanchez' decreased velocity is a little troubling but with his array of pitches he can still clearly be effective. Hell, I don't think Pedro Feliciano ever hits more than 85 on the gun most of the time but he has no trouble getting people out. It would be nice to know if this is just a recovery thing and the velocity will come back, or if he's just going to be a different pitcher from now on.5. Crowd was mostly good and supportive, which was a relief to see. Now if we can just string together a couple of these games...
