Preston Wilson is the son of Richard Wilson.

Prentice Redman is the brother of Tike Redman (if you ever decide to include spring training Mets, anyhow).

Gil Hodges is the father of some guy who supposedly roomed with Ron Hodges in the minors.

According to some poster at UMDB andTopps 1979 Baseball Card # 172, Mike Bruhert is the son-in-law of Gil Hodges. His bio at Baseball-Reference.com, though, says he's married to Rosemary Petrillo, so that may have changed.

Jeff Wilpon, I think, is the son of Fred Wilpon.

Lorinda DeRoulet is the daughter of Joan Whitney Payson.

if you start including the other trustees and directors in there, there's a lot of relativity with other Wilpons and Katzes and such.

Yeah, I know I won't be extending it to the NBA. And no Nancy Lopez, either.

But I figure if the other half of the relationship are already in the UMDB as a farmhand or an opponent, then it's no trouble at all to include it. That means that Felipe Alou is in, but D.J. Strawberry and Ralph Branca are out.

Original Met Gus Bell is the father of Buddy Bell, grandfather of David Bell, and grandfather of Mike Bell. He's no relation to Heath Bell, but Heath is the cousin of Drake Bell of Drake and Josh.

Well, if you insist...

  • Mo Vaughn, cousin of Greg Vaughn.

  • Ken Boyer, brother of Clete Boyer.

  • Joe Torre, brother of Frank Torre.

  • Yogi Berra, father of Dale Berra.

  • Jeff McKnight, son of Jim McKnight.

  • Mike Bacsik, son of Michael James Bacsik.

  • Gary Marshall, Jr., son of Gary Marshall.

  • Gus Bell, father of Buddy Bell, grandfather of David Bell, and grandfather of Mike Bell.

  • Jose Cardenal, cousin of Bert Campaneris (career American Leaguer, but played against the Mets in the 1973 World Series).
This is starting to feel like a classic SJR data dump, so I'll stop here.

In more seriousness, Bobby Wine's son Robby, I see at the UMDB, had four anti-Met at-bats in 1987.

Dave LaRoche is the father of Adam LaRoche.

And Mets catcher Gustavo Molina is NOT related to the three Molina brothers who are Major League catchers - Yadier, Benji and Jose.

Victor Zambrano:
Born in Venezuela;
Throws Righty;
Switch hitter (good hitter, by the way);

Carlos Zambrano;
Also born in Venezuela;
Also throws Righty;
Also a switch hitter (and one of the best hitting pitchers in the NL);

Unfortunately:
Not related & the Mets Zambrano couldn't consistently pitch like the Cubs Zambrano...

Hey now, you don't want to sanitize Mel Rojas out of that Alou family tree.

[/quote:3raoyogg]

He's the nephew of Felipe, but not of Jesus and Matty?

Does that mean he's the son of Felipe's wife's brother or sister?

Well, at the time of the post, I was working in a Met-only context.

Hell, I live in a Met-only context.

If draft choices ever go into the UMDB, then 2007 draftee Glen Johnson can be noted as HoJo's son.

You'd think HoJo would be straight with them about his son's signability and they wouldn't have drafted him.

That kid has been nothing but trouble for the Mets.

There's the Cornejos, though I don't think the Mets have ever faced Nate.

And here you go, Gil Hodges, Jr., still waiting for a memory.
