Guest AG/DC Guests Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 That David Wright --- he's a swell one with the bases loaded. Ya, you betcha.SituationABRH2B3BHRRBIBBIBBSOHBPSHSFXIROEGDPAVGOBPSLGOPSBases Loaded405319804566012005000.475.490.9751.465
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Wow, an OPS of 1.465. That's the shizz.
Guest Triple Dee Guests Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Out of interest, who holds the record for most Grand Slams as a Mets player? My guess would be either, Rockin' Robin or Darryl
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I think John Milner had a bunch of them.Someday the UMDB will have that information, but not yet. (It's in the works, though.)
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 According to p. 447 of this year's Media Guide, Irish is correct. Piazza tops the list of Mets Grand Slams with 6. Behind him with 5 apiece are HoJo, Kevin McReynolds, John Milner and Robin Ventura.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 That would suggest that Wright leads among active Mets.Already.And he's like 14 years old.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I've read that its both easier and harder to hit with the sacks drunk.Easier because the pressure is on the pitcher to throw strikes. Harder because the batter tends to press to get the big hit.So basically my post adds nothing to this thread.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 It's not that surprising that he'd lead among active Mets. He may be young, but he does have seniority over everyone but Jose Reyes.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I was actually going to guess McReynolds.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Yeah, but the table is stretching the thread out and that makes it harder for me to read.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Keep in mind that Ventura is probably not officially credited with Mets grand slam #6 to tie him with Piazza.

Here's the list. That's an interesting list. Hard to believe that only 8 of Mays' 660 dingers were with the bases juiced.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Fran Healy used to rave about how certain players like Piazza, Ventura and his buddy Reggie used to relish hitting with the bases loaded, while others would get all nervous and fail to get the arms extended and lose their confidence. It's that type of color commentary I miss.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 find me a hitter who will say he doesn't "relish" hitting with the bases loaded. its like saying a pitcher "relishes" pitching with an 0-2 count.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Oh, I agree. That's why Bobby Valentine has to take some heat for Kenny Rogers '99. It wasn't Rogers' decision to intentionally walk the two previous batters.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I was hoping Fran would pay us a visit but I suppose he's busy polishing his Hall Of fame shows , I think Fran's exact words were that a players nervous system gets activated and that gets them all flustered, at least the ones that didn't relish it.Fran?
