Guest AG/DC Guests Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Thirteen times in history, a Met has given up over 100 runs in a season*, having the combination of being bad enough to get lit up, but good enough that you don't want to blow the bullpen when they are needed to relieve lesser starters the rest of the week. So they keep going out there and taking their lumps.Who are these cats and what season did they give up their centuries.* Fully six guys have packed it in at 99 earnies on the season. Wimps.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Are these 13 distinct pitchers, or are there some repeaters in the list?I don't know why, but something tells me Walt Terrell in 1984 is one of the guys. This guess seems wrong but I'm going to make it anyway.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 There are repeaters. The same guy may appear more than once, and the same season may appear more than once. So give me both when you answer.Terrell '84 is incorrect. That's -1 for you.Sharpie, get with the program.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Yeah, gotta go with the 62ers. How about Hook and Jackson?

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Gotta figure someone from '93 was in there. Frank Tanana?

Guest sharpie Guests Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I'm going to stay with Fisher for '65. I remember the ugly backs of his baseball cards.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 You know, a Google image search on "ugly backs" yields surprisingly little.I thought I'd find a gross hairy image to paste here, but no luck!
Guest sharpie Guests Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Staying with the early Mets I'll say Roger Craig repeated in '63.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Not that I have any idea, but are we talking runs or earned runs?

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Craig Swan? He pitched on bad teams. I'll guess 1980.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 The Amazing 1996 Mets had four guys give up 100 runs - Izzy, Pulse, Pete Harnisch and Bobby J. Jones. Though in their defense, they all gave up less than 100 earned runs.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 The '63 Mets had to have SOMEBODY give up at least 100 earned runs. How about Al Jackson?

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 How about 79 for Swan? I'll keep guessing.
