Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Identify a Mets need, pick a team that can fill that need, find an active forum for that team and offer that deal to the fans of that team. Can you find a fan to take that deal? Can you get the majority of any forum to take that deal? (Doubt it.)Would a Twins fan like that Santana/Reyes thingie? What would Ronny Paulino cost us a Pirate forum? How many young outfielders does it take to buy us a Roy Halladay at BlueJayWay.com?Go.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I'm waiting for a Twins fan to come here and argue it the other way.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 You've got to be aggressive and take it to them. Report back your findings.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I posted Shoppach © and Barfield (2B) to the Mets for Heilman or Pelfrey to the Indians.I'll let you know the reaction.Later
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I did my duty on an A's board regarding Haren and Blanton.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 What are you offering, Omar Minirish?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Here is the thread, don't laugh.Know What I Mean?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Look at you fishing around. Put somebody on the table.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Problem is I don't think they know the players that might be in any deal, I did get a Mets fan from that board wanting to join here.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Make your pitch. If they don't know the Mets' players, good. Offer them Scott Schoeneweis.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Getting some feedback here, offer made from me.from a mod on that board.]A lot of people fail to realize that the A's had a 5.04 ERA post all star break. They think pitching is a strength (And it has been for a long time) and assume that trading one or both of these guys is no big deal.Which is why I don't see those trades happening unless it is for high quality prospects that are a couple of years away from the majors. The A's are a Blanton and Haren trade away from a 90+loss season.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 They're playing you hard. But you've got to close a deal.I'm heading out into the Twinsophere, working on a Gomez and Ollie Perez for Santana dealio. I'm willing to switch in Maine for Perez if they prefer. I'm guessing they'll tell me to stick it. But where do I go from there? Other guys I've looked at --- Mark Buerle, Gil Meche --- have no-trade clauses going. Aaron Harang, who has annoying facial hair issues, has one of those backloaded contracts that teams love to try to dump on the Mets, so I'm going after him next. I think the Mets need to stockpile Aarons, but I may end up crawling back to the Twins fans trying to sweeten the deal with an Eddie Kunz or something.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 There certainly is concern about having star players for when they move into the new ball park, seems to be a line of thinking when it comes to trades, I might mention Art Howe very soon.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 OK, my dyslexic alter ego has intro'd a Hudson/Montero discussion on a dbagg blog. We shall see what comes of it.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Excellent, good sport, see if we can get Tony Clark back to sort out the club house.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I think I can get Montero and Hudson for John Maine. Whaddaya think?
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Pass. Oh, and ask them what they'd want for Micah Owings. I would LOVE to get Micah Owings.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 F that. I think I'm getting Hudson, Montero and a longshot Class A reliver for Maine and Anderson Hernandez.Fair is fair.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 If we give up Maine we're now looking for two starting pitchers.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Yeah, well, I didn't trade Pelfrey, Humber Milledge or Gomez, so Edgy can still trade them for Santana, and we can still buy a free agent with the money we're not giving to LoDuca, Castillo and/or Torreabla.I expect to be named Executive of the Year any minute now.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Dickshot solves second and catcher, then there's worse ideas than opening the season --- again --- with Pelfrey in the rotation, and maybe Humber in the pen.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Wham.http://mvn.com/mlb-diamondbacks/2007/11/14/bob-melvin-is-honored-too/
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I really am jealous of the D-Backs for having Owings. As I've remarked before, he changes the dynamic of every game he pitches. He's like Brooks Kieschnick, except much better and a starting pitcher. He can be a pinch-hitter on his off days.

Not a bad analysis.]Interesting trade suggestion. Mark Shapiro has said he can't imagine an 2008 Indians team without Asdrubal Cabrera a major part, and he's also said Jhonny Peralta is the team's shortstop next year, sp Barfie;d is expendable to the Tribe and good trade bait. Shoppach is the back-up catcher and Victor Martinez's improvement behind the plate this past year means Shoppach will continue to be a back-up as long as he's with the Tribe. But he could very well start for other teams and is quite capable of hitting 20+ homers a season if he starts. So, from the Indians standpoint, both players should be trade bait. However, I'm not sure if Heilman and Pelfrey address any of the Tribe's needs. The Indians already have a log jam at starting pitcher. By picking up Byrd's option recently, the Tribe only has one spot for Cliff Lee, Sowers and Aaron Laffey to fill. Acquiring Pelfrey only complicates that situation, unless of course the Indians could (as suggested) package Lee and Sowers in deal for Miguel Cabrera. Or maybe Pelfrey would be part of that deal. Heilman would be a help in the bullpen, but he's not someone they desparately need. Perhaps acquiring Pelfrey to be used in another trade makes the most sense for the Indians.Later
