It's the chasing, the getting, not the having

I'd like the Mets to win two of four so I could put his theory to test, perhaps a more competitive WS would have helped or if they had played the yankees in the ALCS . Still I doubt many will feel bad for him.

Do you think that Vlad is his roommate?

Well, he's at least accepted the fact that he has no bearing on the outcome... few fans ever accept that. He sounds more though like he's bored win or lose, where the key to sustained fandom is to satisfy yourself with whatever a season brings.

kinda like manny's comment... 'if we lose, there's next year' type of attitude

I think it's understandable to have less excitement about subsequent championships. If the Mets had won in 1988, I wouldn't have been quite as fired up as I was in 1986.

This guy has just taken it to such an extreme that he really ought to categorize himself as a former fan.

When I read that item, I first thought, "what a dope!" But he's not really a dope, he's just a guy who has lost interest. And there's really nothing wrong with that. He's certainly entitled to not care about the Boston Red Sox if they no longer float his boat.

You know, when you are in college, and there are thousands of girls around, all from ages 18-22, most of them experiencing "freedom" for the first time, it is easy to get distracted from baseball.

I have no idea what happened to the Mets from '94 to '97.

I didn't realize until just now how much I missed college.

White hats and Jerry DiPoto. Really, you didn't miss anything. Although I'll say this, having been in college the same time... you're totally right.

Same here, with the exception of junior and senior year which encompassed 98 (and even that Piazza was brought in after school was out) and 99 the Mets were barely an afterthought.

Could also have been because Fairfield was at the time quite a Yankee-Red Sox hub.
