Blame Boras for Mike Pelfrey's 2007?

]Totally stealing this info from another board, but Peter Gammons was on ESPN radio today and remarked that the Red Sox now blame Scott Boras for fucking Craig Hansen's mechanics to high heaven. According to Gammo, Boras keeps his own staff of coaches who advise his clients to keep deliveries that will prolong their career even if it alters the player's ability. Jayson Stark has remarked that the same thing has happened to former stud Mike Pelfrey and that it is a situation that is now permeating throughout the league. If this is true, then wow. I've always supported Boras' negotiation tactics because he always had the interests of his clients at heart, but I don't think he should be tweaking the players or interfering with the team's coaching.

Ugh! So the most highly touted Met pitching prospect to make it to the Mets (Kaz of course never made it) since GenK is done in because his agent had him tinker with his delivery? His agent?

is there any legit evidence that Boras actually does shit like this, either in general or with Pelfrey? if its true i'd never sign a boras pitcher again, but it sounds a bit "out there."

Seriously though,wouldn't Boras know that he would potentially be causing injury to his client and in the long run as the piece says "alters the player's ability" hampering Boras ability to negotiate contracts for his client.

Gammons is a fairly reliable reporter, and if he says Boras keeps his own staff of coaches, I'd be likely to believe that.

The rest is speculation. It's not totally unbelievable -- agents tend to make decisions that will benefit them, which are not always in the best interests of the players. But I woudn't swallow it whole, either.

Gammons reliability is hinged on whether you think he oversells his trade rumours or people overbuy them.

The other night on the Mets telecast, one of the announcers (Hernandez? Darling?) mentioned that when Heilman joined the Mets and was in the minors, "someone" changed the arm angle of his delivery with which he had been successful as a college player, and he was pounded. I'd heard that before, but nobody has ever said (to my knowledge) who that person was.

The announcer said that when Peterson got him back to throwing the same way he had thrown in college, he began to pitch well again. Could it have been one of Heliman's agent's folks who suggested the change? Is Boras his agent?
