Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 First of all, note the starting time: 8:05 EDT, or 6PM local time - an hour earlier than last night.Apparently there's a fireworks thing after the game and I guess Denver goes to bed early and they can't shoot off rockets past 9 o'clock or something.Vargas vs Aaron Cook (4-9, 4.70, 1.40 WHiP)We last faced Cook during the series at Shea in April where he kept us scoreless for 7 IPs (6 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks) - that game stayed scoreless thru 9 (7 IPs from OHernandez). Both teams then traded single runs in the 10th (2-out double & triple off Wagner, then an Easley HR) before Endy won it in the 12th with a bunt.Vargas's only start this year was that wacky day game in May vs the Cubs where Willie put in the scrub lineup and they proceeded to look like shit before scoring 5 in the 9th. Prior to the fireworks, Jason didn't exactly distunguish himself that day: 7 IP, 5 R, 6 H, 2 K, 0 BB
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Nobody actually lives in Denver so I doubt that fireworks aactually bother them. They are mostly holed away in fake communities like Cherry Creek and Columbine, but they will probably enjoy the fireworks from their car windows as they drive home.

Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Gotay at 2B would leave room for Valentin to be the backup catcher which I think he is.edit -- I guess Matsui only faces RHPs anymore. I guess that's OK because I root for him still.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 SNY is actually telling me that Matsui is playing tonight in Carroll's spot in the order, at 2B.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 That's what I suggested just a few posts earlier, but maybe not. Just a day off for LoDuca, as per SNY.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 like i said in the other IGT, wheres the Mets' LF? you have an 8-man lineup.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 it's 4-2 Rockies in the 1st inning. geez.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Probably because we don't have a left fielder in the lineup.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Hey! I'm not Bobby Bonilla any more! Whew.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Who's the idiot who predicted that Vargas would throw a two-hit shutout tonight?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 That's why you use Castro instead of Franco on Sunday.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 This is what happens when you're not properly prepared for battle.

Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Matsui is 5-5. Shove it, Met fans.

Guest iramets Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 You're mad at ME because he sucked donkey balls here?OE: Hey, look who I am: the owner of the only winning record of any starter on the 35-48 KC Royals.
Guest cleonjones11 Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Can we pleeez trade potential for proven..Milledge for Buehrle..Unless you these assclown pitchers now and then..
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 There's been too many "it's just one of those nights" games lately.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 This was truly revolting, not just because they killed us but how.We had a lead in the first inning then shut off the engines. They fought like hell from the opening, when Taveras gave Vargas a 10 or 12 pitch battle and eventually singled, to the end when they were still making tough plays and having long ABs while we were getting thrown out jogging down the line and throwing away DP balls. To be statistically accurate, this team's "pep" is right at replacement level.

I'll also ask what makes you suspect that Milledge will buy Buerle, especially when he's been hurt.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 1. I don't think the White Sox make that trade.2. While the recent injuries to Perez and Sosa have made us throw some crap out there, this is likely to solve itself post-break. Unless you're planning on replacing our least-effective starter (GLAVINE) with Buehrle, I'm not sure how Buehrle helps this team much right now. It makes t he playoff rotation stronger, but lets get there. trade for a LFer
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I think it might be time to end The Jason Vargas Experiment. Not that I have a strong suggestion on who to replace him with the next time we need an emergency starter. Dave Williams?

Thanks a lot, assholes. Why on earth would you think he could hit a lick here, or cover more ground at second base than your average earthworm? What, he didn't get a fair shot at playing second for the Mets? We should have let him screw up a few more games, and play atrociously even longer than we did?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I'm certain his argument is with the booing patrons, not the loss-cutting management.
