I'd put Fenway and Wrigley in the same category. Madison Square Garden though is definetaly better known than any of them.

Figuring on MLB's penchant for putting AS games in new stadiums, NYC could conceivably see 3 AS games in the next decade after having just one over the last 43 years.

Any Met fan younger than 41 years old hasn't seen a home ASG in their lifetime. I used to try and count the years till they'd have one and figured, maybe the mid to late 80s. But Shea just hasn't wanted one. It's weird.

THe only time I've ever been to the old Wembley Stadium was July, 1987. Backpacking through Europe that summer.

Saw U2 on the Joshua Tree Tour.

Lou Reed and The Pogues were the opening acts. Bono had a cast on his arm as a result of breaking it at a previous stop on the tour.

We made our way down to the front of the stage which was cool until litre size glass bottles of beer started getting hurled straight up into the air and crashing down on people's heads.

Moved a bit farther back for the rest of that show. Bought a wall-sized concert poster outside the stadium, rolled it up and carried it with me for the next 7 weeks all over the continent. Still have it. Framed and hanging in my office at home.

It usually goes to new stadiums, and since Shea isn't a classic like Fenway or Wrigley, it gets passed over.

Though Yankee Stadium did hold one in '77*, so it seems odd they pick it again. It also will delay Citi Field being chosen; I don't think MLB will want to have it in New York again for several years.

*I was on the field with the players, BTW.

Relax, KC.
The Colliseum construction is being delayed because they're reviewing the plans. It seems someone noticed that the left field line is going to be very short (about 250 feet). So they'd have to erect a high screen if they didn't change the plans.

Well it was 20 years ago, I was drunk and probably stoned. I've always been prone to forgetfulness but I'm 99% certain that the man had a cast on his arm at that show in July.

Someone called up Steve Somers on WFAN last night with a suggestion that they hold the 2008 Home Run Derby at Shea the night before the ASG. It would make it part of a "New York" event and show some props to the about-to-be-replaced Shea.

Thoughts about the idea?

Selig threw a bone the Mets way at the yankee love-fest yesterday.

I liked this for about a minute, but the more I think about it, the more it reminds me of the former mayor's offer to let the Mets march off to the side at the 2000 ticker-tape parade. Let YS have its moment (it's had so few).

Maybe the first pitch could be thrown out at Shea and there could be a relay, as with the Olympic torch, over the Triborough.

If this were 1959-1962, we could each get an ASG.
