Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 We have a number conflicti fast approaching. Howard Johnson is due to return as batting coach, but his familiar 20 belongs at present to Shawn Green. What will happen?
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Hojo does't care about 20 -- he'll take a coacherly number -- 52 or something. The real question is, with Cliff gone, does Willie re-take his customary No. 30?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Yeah, 50-something was supposed to be a polling option. I'm adding it.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 It also seems that recently, Met 3rd base coaches have taken low single-digit numbers, he could re-take Manny Acta's No. 3. Looks like Woody's No. 4 goes to Ben Johnson, if Johnson cracks the club. Which raises the question of whether they will have H. JOHNSON and B. JOHNSON nameplates. They did not distinguish last year's Hernadez Brothers that way (O, A and R).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Interestingly, they probably almost never appeared in a game at the same time.HoJo wore an "H." to distinguish him from "D. Johnson" back in the day.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 If I remember right, HoJo had an H but Davey didn't have a D.I voted for HoJo's number to be 50-something. Bud Harrelson had to wear 53 back in the day because Rafael Santana was already wearing 3. And I think Mookie Wilson had to wear 51 because (somebody) was wearing 1 at the time.If Buddy and Mookie couldn't seize their traditional numbers, I doubt that HoJo will.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Am I the only one who thought that this was going to be a joke about Hojohaving more hair now than back in the day? He's gonna wear 52, to piss off Weissman.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I like JD's thinking and I voted 'other'. Number 3.

RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 30. Since he was a 30-30 man.More likely, he'll just take a coach's number.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 26, 2007 Author Posted February 26, 2007 Cool spring number for Carlos Gomez:
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Dickshot calls it - HoJo sporting 52 for today's ST game with the Tigers.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 HoJo was up as a coach at the very end of 2005. Sat on the bench mostly, but was sent out to stand in the first base box on the last day of the season (just the last inning, I recall). He wore 52 that day. Not a big story considering it was Mike Piazza's farewell.Thread title sounds a little like phone sex dialogue for ex-Major Leaguers.
