IIRC, he was signed to a reasonable amount this year but a big ($8mil?) option for next; one that would all but assure the Pads would NOT pick up.

A base hit for Cammy. Good for him.

He'd be wise just to go AL and DH.

Nice play at the plate there but these guys can only get one out at the plate at a time.
sheesh

I am surprised we are not more into this series.

The AL has been the more compelling league all year, especially when it appears that the MFY might be jettisoned from the postseason.

Also these two teams failed to win 90 games this year, so the potential for some not so great baseball is there in this series.

On the other hand - and I think this was Cooby's point - one of these teams will be the Mets opponent in the NLCS if the Mets advance which is why we specifically should have more interest in this series.

As I said before, I'm rooting for the Padres to win the next two games and for all three remaining games to be at least 18 innings in length. A good and tired opponent for the NLCS would be welcome.

]Also inconvenient game times. Today's game will be the first game I'll have a chance to see.

I have a Saturday afternoon class in a few minutes that officially goes to 5:45!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!

But the professor is one that feels he can compress all that he needs to teach in a tighter, normal schedule so I should be out of there by 3:25ish, just in time to hear the final few frames on my way home (may do some shopping as well) and ready to listen and watch the MFY-Tigers and Mets-Dodgers double dip

In Game 3, the Padres have taken a 3-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning.

Now 3-1 in the 8th following a So Taguchi HR (that HR was just soooo Taguchi).

I think I voted that I wanted the Pads to win ... except that the fact that this'll (hopefully) be our next opponent makes me want to pull for St Looie because I think they'll be the easier target (although it's not like I've got a good track record with this sorta thing).
What I would like to see is for the Pads to at least extend this thing another day or two and make LaRussa burn Carpenter for a game and take him out of Game 1 for the next round.

My rooting interest in this series is 5 games and tired pitchers.

I hope the Padres win, but I really want to see tired pitchers.

As I said, I'd like to see the Padres win. But even if I was rooting for the Cardinals, I'd be rooting for San Diego to win Sunday's game.

And if the Padres were up 2-1 instead of down, I'd be rooting for St. Louis on Sunday.

I want the Mets LCS opponent to play on Monday night.

Carpenter is starting tomorrow for St. Louis.

If St. Louis wins, that will mean

1. No Carpenter in Game 1
2. Maximum 2 Carpenter starts over a 7-game LCS.

This series finally gets a PRIME TIME SLOT! WHOOO-HOOOO!

Looks like it will be ex-Card Woody Williams is being tabbed for the start against Carpenter tonight.

Like WP said, hope Pads win this game, and may both tonight and Monday last untill the morning hours

=;)

Game 4 is underway.

Piazza is sitting tonight. I'm not sure why.

Cy Carpenter just walked in a run with the bases loaded. 1 out in the 1st, bags still juiced with Padres.

Cameron's speed avoids the double play and gives San Diego a 2-0 lead.

The Pads uni's bug me in the way the Nats do in that the font of logo on the hat (the interlocking "SD" for the Pads and the curly-cue "W" for the Nats) doesn't match the script font on the front of the uni (cursive "Padres" and block "Nationals"). That said, I still love the sand color road uni's the Padres wear, and think they look pretty good with the deep, ocean blue tops, and as a rule, I hate dark alternate tops. Still prefer the sand-colored "San Diego" road uni, even though that font's not quite right either.

Good the Padres win tonight and then tomorrow and during the day Tuesday there are torrential downpours in San Diego, forcing the final game to start late Tuesday night and that game goes 18 innings.

Belliard's bases loaded hit off of Williams ties the game.

Someone is going to have to explain to me why they sit Piazza every other game for no particular reason. He is their best hitter other than Gonzalez, and the Cardinals aren't exactly the 1985 version of themselves.

I think that jersey is great. Love the lettering.
