A new participant joins Milwaukee's Sausage Races -

]Brewers add chorizo to sausage race
EMILY FREDRIX
Associated Press

MILWAUKEE - It could have been wurst. On his first outing as the newest sausage at Miller Park, chorizo didn't fall on his buns.

Wearing an oversized brown sombrero and a bright yellow shirt emblazoned with the No. 5, Chorizo became the fifth pork product to join the famed sausage races at every Milwaukee Brewers home game.

He signed a contract with Brewers general manager Doug Melvin at a news conference at the stadium and then trotted around the bases.

Chorizo, also known as "El Picante," will race for the first time on Saturday against the other sausages - Italian, bratwurst, Polish and hot dog. But that'll be the only time this year he runs in the Klement's Sausage races, which have taken place every home game since 2000.

Chorizo will be put through the grind in the minor league, so he can get some extra seasoning before rejoining the other sausages next season, Melvin said.

Chorizo said through an interpreter his dream has come true.

"I am very humbled to be in the presence of so many world-class wieners, but hopefully I can bring a little something new to the table, and Brewers fans will welcome me into their hearts and grills," Chorizo said in a statement that was read in both English and Spanish.

I demand that Milwaukee's sizeable Irish community be recognized with an Irish Sausage. He'd have wild red hair under a tam-o-shanter, dress like a leprechaun, and bear a shilleleagh to beat the other sausages with.

I'm with Willets...in other Brewer news.....

]

All-Star left fielder Carlos Lee rejected a four-year, $48 million contract offer from the Brewers on Thursday, dramatically increasing the chances that he will be traded before Monday's non-waiver deadline, major-league sources tell FOXSports.com.

Rank the sausages, not for speed but for which order you'd choose them if you were at a ballpark tailgate.
Here's how I'd go:

1. Brat
2. Italian
3. Chorizo
4. Polish
5. Hot dog
6. Irish (gushy and flavorless!)

When we were in Milwaukee in 2002, we were told by someone in a position to know (i.e. the girl giving the brewery tour) that one should always bet on the Brat - he wins an inordinate amount of the time.

Chorizo is a spicy Portugese sausage.
I didn't know it was eaten as a "stand alone". I've only seen it used as a flavoring ingredient in other dishes (Like a paella).

I've never had an Irish sausage, so if I had a chance to try one I would.

But I'll leave them off my list entirely. So here are the remaining five:

1. Brat
2. Polish
3. Chorizo
4. Italian
5. Hot dog

I have to say it's a very close race. It should be more like 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, and 5.
