]It [the Ventura 2 GS DH] was a Sunday afternoon early season DH IIRC.

It was a DH (Milwaukee) but not a Sunday. Was a mid-week make-up deal.

A 3-4-3 play ends the home eighth. Not a double play. The ball bounced off Delgado.

Just your routine 3-4-3 putout...

According to Ultimate Mets Database, the date was May 20.

So, this Bray guy is who the Reds pulled off that seemingly lopsided trade to get.

Still looking lopsided.

"Clutch theory" is probably not nearly the settled question among the new statisticians as all that.

Who played center for last year?

Because it sure wasn't this guy.

This guy wasn't healthy last year...

Nice encouraging win.

I have to say, I kinda feel bad for poor Eric Milton. He obviously has good stuff, but just isn't precise enough a few times each night, and always pays through the nose for it.

That said, if I were Narron I'd have employed that new bullpen sooner. IIRC, the last time the Mets faced Milton the very same thing happened: Quite effective for a while until the inevitable HRs started raining.

A Thursday that was.

I rmemeber it was a weekday only because I was listening to part of it while walking with my radio to the Subway.

Dickshot has too much sympathy for the bunchers.

Jerry Narron was the Yankee catcher the day after Thurman Munson died, right?

So guys how do we access Pelfrey tonight, 98 pitches and six innings.

I didnt actually see how he was throwing so i dunno-
but Id take a performance like that out of a rookie on his 2nd start anytime.

He walked afew ,but spread out the hits and did pitch out of jams.

like i said, i didnt see, but i like what I read.

="SteveJRogers"]Reyes return. Heh, only a few years back morons on WFAN and ESPN Radio would have suggested Reyes would be sidelined for the year and it was a career threatning injury! "Oh but he won't be able to grip the bat right!"

What?

Just a little laughing at the face of people who thought Reyes would be injury prone his entire career and would never play 120+ games in his career

Kind of the same as people wondering when Vlad Guerrero's back is going to give out

Maybe it really was the medical staff's fault!

]There were two on and two out in the fifth inning Tuesday night, and Mike Pelfrey was one errant pitch from walking the Reds slugger Adam Dunn to load the bases for Ken Griffey Jr. Pelfrey had thrown four consecutive fastballs, the last three out of the strike zone, but he needed to clear his head before rifling his fifth.

So he bent to retie the laces on his right shoe, spending about 20 seconds. Then, with similar care, he got Dunn to foul off another fastball, then wave at a sailing 96-mile-an-hour heater to end the threat

Gary and Keith talked about the laces too, and compared it to Franco tying his on the mound all the time.

]Facing a daunting lineup (the Reds lead the National League in homers) at a hitter-friendly stadium, Pelfrey allowed seven hits all singles and permitted only two fly balls. He walked three and struck out three while throwing 98 pitches (he threw 104 in five innings in his last start) in making the sort of progress the Mets anticipated and Pelfrey expected.

Nah. Maybe for the manager and fans who have to put up with Milton. It's got to be maddening to have a guy with such ability always being a second away from ruining your night.

I'd say that feeling is not too unfamiliar to us.

Pelfrey on the shoe lace thing...

]

Asked if he was using the time to compose himself, Pelfrey offered a different lesson.

"The shoelace kept coming undone," he said. "I talked to [Tom] Glavine and he said between now and my next start he's going to show me how to tie a double knot so I don't have that problem."
