seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Two questions. One, why the hell are that many people searching for Mackey Sasser? Two, how the hell does "Jonathan Papelbon" lead you anywhere near mbtn?

I fully expect a deal to get done, unless some bonehead causes a rift between David and either the city or the front office. Fortunately, Dick Young is dead at the present time, so at least, he won't screw this up for us.On an unrelated note, further proof that David Wright is all that and a bag of chips: he's zooming up the charts in UMDB popularity. He's now all the way in 26th place, having passed a ton of Mets who had up to a five-year head start on him. He's bound to crack the top twenty before the end of the calendar year, if not before the end of the season.Yeah, just make sure Reyes doesn't get traded to, I don't know, Anaheim, and Mrs. Wright or Ms. Seeing David Wright doesn't get all jealous of Reyes' main squeeze's living the high life.SC=1977
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I met an African-American woman at a party, and she turned out to be a Mets fan. It's always a delight in DC, as DC folks tend to care about the 'Skins first, and golf (it's tru!) a distant second, and the Mets have rarely helped me forge any common ground across racial lines. Her husband rolled his eyes when he saw her get all animated about the Mets. She told me about a recent event co-worker giving her tickets to see the Mets-Nats at RFK (it might have beent eh same Pedro game I caught). "But first answer this trivia questoiin: Who's the greatest Met of all-time?"To which she said "Duh, Tom Seaver." Rolly-eyed husband interjected to opine that it's a dumb trivia question when rthe answer is a matter of opinion. She and I agreed that althought it was a dumb question, the answer practiacally qualified as a fact. Here's hoping it gets downgraded back to opinion someday.

Also, I think because that counter goes by percentages, the fewer web pages that list Mackey Sasser's name means more hits when they search for it at a place where his name appears several times. Not sure how Papelbon gets a hit, but it's probably because someone swiped some content from here on a page that also lists his name. I'm certain he's getting lots of searches overall, so a small % comes here
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 I can't explain the Papelbon thing either. I tried Google and AltaVista to see if any Papelbon references are found on MBTN.net, and got nothing. I wonder which search engine led the searcher to your site?I also Googled Mackey Sasser. His UMDB page came up as the third choice on page 1, and the page listing all Mets catchers came up on the second page of results. The MBTN 1-10 page landed on the fourth page of results.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 Meanwhile... Yikes!Jonathan Papelbon (and every other Mets player and opponent) shows up as a dead Met on this page: http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/necrology.phpSomething went wrong! Or else everybody died!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 Okay, I fixed that. Here's a page that has both Papelbon and MBTN: http://leaptoad.com/mets/opponent.php?PlayerCode=7213
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Man, 2004 was a deadly year to be a Met.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 Knocking on wood, we've made it more than halfway through 2006 without losing anybody.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I just watched the interview and am stunned by "I watched games at Camden Yards as a kid." Not Memorial Stadium...Camden Yards.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 Why would that be nervousness? Camden Yards opened 14 years ago, when Wright was 9 years old.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 No I was saying I'm feeling old.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 It won't be all that long before there's a large number of Mets fans who have no memory of Shea Stadium.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I still think of Camden Yards as new. I can't believe its 14.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 found this while reading Jon Heyman in SI online.]Lightning RodOne New York columnist cited a picture on the cover of Tuesday's New York Post of a bare-chested Alex Rodriguez sunbathing in Central Park and asked Yankees GM Brian Cashman why A-Rod seems to make "poor decisions.'' Cashman came back with a strong defense (stronger than the defense A-Rod has shown lately), saying, "There's a mentality toward him that isn't right. Central Park is one of the great landmarks where you go and take your shirt off. So why can't he? Because he makes $252 million?'' Cashman went on to wonder why Mets third baseman David Wright gets positive publicity while lately A-Rod's seems all negative, despite the two having similar years. "He's having the same season as David Wright," Cashman said. "He's not getting the same love because of the money he makes. Bottom line.''A-Rod (.282, 20 HRs, 68 RBIs) makes $25.2 million compared with Wright (.317, 21, 77), who is making $374,000. For those without a calculator, that's 1/67th of what A-Rod makes. Cashman continued, "This guy doesn't get put in jail. He does good work with charity. He doesn't stay up late carousing. He doesn't inflame anything politically. He's a good citizen. So what's the difference? It's the money.'' A-Rod, who lives a block from the park, joked, "It was a modeling shoot.... No, it's my backyard. I was just lounging with my daughter and my wife.''
