well, that means he was probably a good actor who died young or suddenly quit acting.

but its probably not a star, like James Dean in the 50s, because i would easily recall a star that died young (or old, like Richard Farnsworth, with a short career).

When thinking about Oscar-winning films of the 70s, the first movies that jump to mind are movies with Pacino, Hoffman, DeNiro, Nicholson. .. so I think about there movies and the GODFATHER movies come to mind first... and low and behold, therein lives brother Fredo, played by the dead character actor John Cazale.

I checked on IMDB and see that Cazale is, indeed, the correct answer.

Peter O'Toole played King Henry II in Becket and The Lion in Winter. I can't think of any others.

Kevin Smith's Viewaskewniverse films technically aren't considered sequels with the exceptions of Clerks I and II

Short interesting life/career this Cazale guy had.

Best buds since childhood with Pacino, engaged to Meryl Streep, was deathly ill while filming Deer Hunter and died shortly after it was released.

Even though you guys got it pretty quick I still think its a pretty cool trivia question though

Another answers to the trivia question is Paul Rubens who played Pee Wee Herman in multiple films. Then there's that Ernest guy.

Hey now! Actually its a bit self-aggrandizing and a bit cathartic for Smith, during the process of revisiting Clerks for the Clerks X project couple of years ago (thats the 10th anniversary double disc set) that he felt he HAD to do this sequel. Well that and there has been alot of pressure over the years from fans to do a "right" followup for Dante and Randall (all other Smith films have neat and tidy endings except Clerks)

And the fact that he is an admitted Publicity Whore!

Also, Clerks II will only have Dante, Randall, Jay and Bob in terms of that Viewaskewniverse. There will be cameos by Jason Lee, Ethan Suplee, and other actors from the different films, but no other character. Funny thing about that, Lee in Clerks II looks like he walked off the set of My Name Is Earl leading speculation on the board that I saw the trailer linked to that Lee was in fact portraying his TV show character, Earl Hickey! He's not, but it would be quite a Smith way of doing things.

I wouldn't count the Star Trek, since the films are all interrelated: they all have "Star Trek" in the title and are part of the same franchise.

I can think of three other people not mentioned: one pair (together) from the 1940s and one from the 1960s.

Hint: the pair made both films for the same director.
Hint: the 60s was an Oscar-winning actress who played a detective.
