nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 I gave up Jeremy Hermida and Cliff Polite for Mike Mussina and Jay Payton.I'd like to take the opportunity to ask people NOT to vote against any trades unless they are really stupid, theres no money involved here and the "trade police," while necessary in a league with prize money, ruin the fun.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 No argument from me. The deal would have to be spectacularly lopsided, or I'd need a reason to think somebody was deliberately sacrificing himself for somebody else's benefit.

Smg58 - Im confused - I thought you were looking for starting pitching and outfielders. The trading block also says Rivera is available for trade.Does that mean your giving up on saves or just dont want Mariano in your pen?PS- I rejected your trade offer. But Crede's still available for the right price.

Rivera is dealable (for the right price) because even with the ifs (IF Gagne and Foulke stay reasonably healthy and IF Bobby Jenks pitches in April like he has in March and opens the door for Cotts), my pen is in better shape without Rivera than third base and the bottom of my lineup currently are. I'd still prefer to deal Gagne, though. And at least a couple of teams have potential problems at catcher...Hermida will play full time, Payton might not get as many AB's as last year.Crede isn't enough of an upgrade over Boone to justify giving up somebody I might miss. I saw Crede as insurance in case Youkilis and Aurillia only start against lefties, but not more than that. Barring a more tempting player being offered to me, I'm willing to start the year with Boone in that role.By the way, does anybody know when they plan to add Brian Bannister to the pool of players?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 smg58 I accept your trade...I get Varitek and you get Garland.

Have we not officially put him on the 25-man roster yet? Anyway, after he's added to Yahoo! Fantasy, there will be a two-day waiver period where people can place their claims.

Since you dealt Veritek for Garland (nice deal) does that take your remaining catchers off the block?
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Right now I don't need more pitching. I think I can fill my two util spots adequately. I could still afford to upgrade at second or third but the guys I would have traded Rivera for do not appear to be available. As for my remaining catchers, I like having insurance but I'll entertain good offers. I think I'm done making proposals for the time being.PS abogdan traded Scott Podsednik and Ryan Zimmerman to Vic Sage for Luis Gonzalez (of the Rockies) and Brett Myers. Both sides fill needs.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Thankfully I accepted Varitek from smg58, I just noticed mt other catcher Zaun went on the DL.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 There was a reason I kept badgering you with offers for catchers...
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2006 Author Posted April 17, 2006 Bret Myers for Chase Utley??????I won't vote against any trades but this seems pretty rediculous to me.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Depends on how bad marathon needs K's. But I'd have held on to Utley.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 i know, i'm going to grow to regret that trade. i was thinking at the time... i should hold off, think it through a bit... but then i saw how truly poorly i was doing in wins and other pitching stats and made a rash decision. i shoulda shopped a bit, i think.oh well. we'll see how it turns out in the end.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 yeah, i traded Myers to abogdan for Podsednik, because i had a surplus of frontline pitching and no SBs.so what happens? Posednik is playing hurt and playing bad, and Abogdan is able to turn Myers into Chase Utley. ugh.Myers will give you Ks, but he's pitching in a hitter's park, and who knows if the Phils will be good enough for him to win alot. Utley? a 5-category 2bman, with 1b eligibility!yes, you should have shopped around.actually, you shouldn't have traded utley under any circumstances. You might've found a good SPer for less. Starting pitching is one of those things you can pick up over the course of a season. a .300/30/30/100/100 2bman doesn't come along very often.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 yeah, i know. call it my one stupid move this season... until the next.
Guest GYC Guests Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 A bit late on posting it here but I swapped Barry Zito for Jim Thome with theoldmole. Maybe he has patience for Zito, but I sure as hell don't.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Thome's looked like a top 20 player, if not better, so far. There's still a bit of an injury risk, but I'd lose patience with Zito in a big hurry too if I could get Thome for him.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 First base was the only position I had depth at, and I gambled that Thome was playing over his head the first month of the season. My pitching staff was such a disaster Victor Zambrano would have improved it.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I know how you feel. I thought Garland and Doug Davis would be upgrades on Mussina and Westbrook and, well, just look at their ERA's. I also figured Mussina was on his way down. My bad.In the meantime I just dealt Matt Murton for Todd Jones. Jones may or may not still be Detroit's closer when the deal finalizes, but I have quantity in the outfield and can use a supplemental source of saves, so I felt it was a risk I could afford to take.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Whereas I need any outfielder who can hit over .240.

willpie Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 I just figured out how to check where you're getting your points and it seems I need some runs. not sure that I'm in a position to spare much else, but I'll consider trade requests that will boost my runs.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 That's one of my weakest categories as well, so I can't really help you with that.

willpie Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Am I missing something about the trades? It seems like it's been more than 3 days since I accepted smg's trade offer and yet the trade still doesn't go through until wednesday? How does that work?
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 The trade is official today. Basically there is a waiting period, in case somebody objects. It would take something really lop-sided for me to object, especially since the first trade I made has worked out spectacularly badly for me. But who knows...
Guest GYC Guests Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Four days seems a bit too long for waivers and trades, IMO.
