seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 If you want to get technical, the "H" who played more games than any other at 3B for the Mets was Richie Hebner. It was all in one season (1979), and he made 22 errors, but he's not a terrible pick, considering he hit .268 and drove in 79 runs.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Managed by Berra, with coaches Benedict, Baylor, Burgess and Branley, my B's are ready to take allayaall on. Shall we use Bret's 3-and-2 game to run a tournament?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Let me see if I can get Rod Carew (to play second) and a closer signed to Mets contracts real quick first.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Although the Rs can't really field a complete team, their pitching staff could certainly hold its own:Starters:Nolan RyanRick ReedGlendon RuschArmando ReynosoKenny RogersBullpenGrant RobertsRoyce RingMike RemlingerJerrod RigganJeff Reardon
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Good letters taken, I'll escape the box and take the 20 Mets born in Alabama. My outfield depth will blow your mind. Of course, putting a 42-year-old outfielder at shortstop --- when he hasn't played there since he was 19 --- will blow my mind (and likely any chance my team has. I'm not sure Redman will work out at catcher, and I may have to activate Banedict. But --- what ho! --- that outfiled depth.Bruce Benedict (Birmingham), managerLineup:1) Marlon Anderson (Montgomery), 2b2) Willie Mays (Westfield), ss3) leon Jones (Plateau), 1b4) Tommie Agee (Magnolia), cf5) George Foster (Tuscaloosa), lf6) Johnny Lewis (Greenville), rf7) Amos Otis (Mobile), 3b8) Prentice Redman (Tuscaloosa), cBenchCed Landrum (Butler), ofPat Howell (Mobile), ofLou Thornton (Montgomery),ofTerrence Long (Montgomery), ofCraig Brazell (Montgomery), 1bRotationBill Latham (Birmingham)Randy Tate (Florence)Reid Cornelius (Thomasville)Roy Lee Jackson (Opelika)BullpenTerry Leach (Selma)Frank Lary (Northport)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 That Alabama pitching staff will kill you.I'd guess, without looking, that the best geographic team will come from California. Off the top of my head, you'll have Seaver, Carter, Hernandez, and Strawberry.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Yeah, but it's no fun just picking the obvious best. I'd spend a half hour just trimming the roster to 25.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 This was a fun thing to do when I was a kid. The best all-something team I could ever come up with was that I called the "Dial M For Murder" team of the early 60's. From memory, it was:1B McCovey2B MazeroskiSS McCauliffe3B MatthewsC McCarverLF MantleCF MaysRF MarisSP MarichalSP McLainSP MaloneySP MizellRP MarshallAnd I forgot the rest.Nice team, eh?Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Your bullpen could include Sudden Sam McDowell (though still primarily a starter at that point) and Billy McCool.

As I said, I forgot the rest of that squad.Sudden Sam was a hard guy to forget at that time.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Here's a Texas team. Filling in the pitching staff wasn't hard, but the outfield was tough. I had to go Willie Randolph style, and go with extra infielders in lieu of outfielders. How would the Texans fare against the Alabamans?TEXAS METSSP: Nolan Ryan (Refugio)SP: Pat Zachry (Richmond)SP: Al Jackson (Waco)SP: Anthony Young (Houston)SP: Pete Schourek (Austin)RP: Calvin Schiraldi (Houston)RP: Dennis Cook (Lamarque)RP: Mike Stanton (Houston)RP: Scott Strickland (Houston)RP: Pat Mahomes (Bryan)RP: Brian Bohanon (Denton)RP: Dale Murray (Cuero)C: Jerry Grote (San Antonio)C: Phil Lombardi (Abilene)1B: Danny Heep (San Antonio)2B: Ken Boswell (Austin)3B: Charlie Neal (Longview)SS: Garry Templeton (Lockney)IF: Roy McMillan (Bonham)IF: Mike Phillips (Beaumont)IF: Bob Heise (San Antonio)OF: Steve Henderson (Houston)OF: Joel Youngblood (Houston)OF: Jason Tyner (Beaumont)OF: Cliff Cook (Dallas)

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Man, a California team would be sick. You could probably field two Mets California teams.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I'm up for a California Met Fantasy draft.

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 So with 2006 in the rearview, I thought I'd revisit my H team with a couple minor changes. Orlando Hernandez joins the rotation, bumping Aaron Heilman to the bullpen and Eric Hillman back to imaginary Triple A. We Look forward to 2007 and hope Philip Humber can stabilize the rotation.1b: Keith Hernandez 2b: Ron Hunt SS: Bud Harrelson 3b: Jim Hickman LF: Rickey Henderson CF: Darryl Hamilton RF: Steve Henderson C: Todd Hundley SP: Mike Hampton SP: Pete Harnisch SP: Orlando HernandezSP: Orel Hershiser RP: Doug Henry RP: Jay Hook RP: Roberto Hernandez RP: Aaron Heilman RP: Tom Hausman Bench: Lenny Harris Danny Heep Butch Huskey Ron Hodges Clint Hurdle Don Hahn Jason Hardtke Richard Hidalgo Manager: Gil Hodges First Base Coach: Frank Howard Third Base Coach: Whitey Herzog Bench Coach: Rogers Hornsby Pitching Coach: Charlie Hough Bullpen Coach: Vern Hoscheit
