Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 ]Boston reaches preliminary agreement on $6.7 million, two-year deal with TavarezBy HOWARD ULMAN, AP Sports WriterJanuary 11, 2006BOSTON (AP) -- Julian Tavarez and the Red Sox reached a preliminary agreement Wednesday on a $6.7 million, two-year contract as Boston added another newcomer to its rebuilt bullpen. The reliever must pass a physical for the deal to be finalized, a person familiar with the negotiations said, speaking on condition of anonymity because Boston has not yet announced the agreement. The physical is likely to take place Thursday.Tavarez, a 32-year-old right-hander, gets a $500,000 signing bonus and salaries of $3.1 million in each of the next two seasons. The agreement also includes a club option for 2008 of $3.85 million. That option would become guaranteed if Tavarez appears in a total of 125 games in the next two seasons or 65 games in 2007.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Good. Glad he's not coming here.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 This signing would have been much worse than another year for Roberto or even a arbi-decided 1-year deal for Looper IMO. And when you consider that the original rumors were for more than 2 years and for bigger money than what's stated above ...

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I don't know where this goes any more, but Vagina Boy avoids arbitration, signing a $3,000,000 deal for '06. Only Woody is left.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Vagina Boy.A great nickname from the ill-fated "Let's Give The Starting Rotation A Mnemonic Device" from last April.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Hmmm. I don't remember that. Nor do I understand it!Does Zambrano actually have a vagina? That would be pretty surprising.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I wonder what they would call Raffy, based on his Viagra ads.Later
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I don't remember how it started... I wish the old site were still around. We were trying to come up with a mnemonic to remember the order of the rotation, and someone suggested something ending in Vagina (for Victor) and Boy (for Benson?). Or maybe it was just that Victor was vagina. I don't remember.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 The five-man was Pedro-Glavine-Ishii-Zambrano-Heilman, so I don't know where the "Boy" came from. All I know is that I didn't make this up.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 You may have dreamed this seawolf, I don't ever remember anything like this on the old board..
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Probably came about before Benson left the rotation or after he re-joined it.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 ESPN reporting that Woodward signed a 1 year $825,000 contract. No remaining players for arbitration.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 I remember the thread that seawolf makes reference to. Someone came up with Vagina for Victor Zambrano. I would have never remembered that on my own, but I remember it now that seawolf brought it up. I can't seem to remember the pneumonics associated with Pedro or Tom Glavine either. Can anyone else remember any of this thread? I believe Johhny D. was active in the thread at the time, but I'm not positive.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Yeah, I'm guilty of that name, but I don;t recall how it came about.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 They also quietly announced they've signed Chris Woodward for something like $800,000-$850,000, closing the books on arbitration one more time.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 8 and a quarter according to GWreck.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 There you go. That's what I get for speed-reading the Vagina Dialogues.

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Is this true, or do you like just throwing random statements out there?
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 As Frayed Knot reported earlier, Frank Thomas signs with Oakland. It is reported to be for one year at $ 500,000. Incentives based on at bats and production could add another $ 2.6 million. Seems like a pretty good signing for the A's. Thomas has been fragile, but when healthy he can produce at the plate. If he gets injured or simply can't produce, then Oakland is only out the $ 500k. Oakland only has to ante up big money if Thomas can remain healthy and productive. Seems like a low cost deal with a potentially big upside.

And, according to http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/62304.htm that article, he offered the Yanks $2M to play, but they turned him down.So no, I don't go throwing random statements out there.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 My bad, I thought you had something besides the Post article. I don't give much credence to that article. (Elitist question: Proper usage of credence?)
