I asked D-Dad about how to issue press releases, and this was his off-the-cuff advice -

There are some web-based press release sites where you can post things like that, but I'm not sure where they are. Otherwise, I think you send them out to individual news services like AP and Reuters and to newspapers and hope they get picked up.


He also suggests that we should pass on the information to Jay Horowitz to see whether he would like to release it.

SUBMITTING NEWS TIPS & PRESS RELEASES
Newsday receives hundreds of press releases each day. While we cannot guarantee that any item will be used, a few simple procedures will help ensure that your release gets to the right editors and increases your chance of getting coverage.



Tips:

  • Keep releases short
  • Double-space
  • Write clearly, addressing who, what, where, when and why in the first two paragraphs.
  • Identify the organization or individual sending the release and include the name and daytime phone number (with area code) of someone we can contact if we have questions.
  • Date the release and include whether the material is for immediate use or for release at a later date.
  • Follow-up calls are suggested after submitting a press release. Call early in the day to avoid calling reporters or editors when they are on deadline. Be prepared to fax or mail additional documents that support your publicity needs.



    Deadlines:

    Every section of the paper has a different deadline. Check the information below and submit material to us no later than the times mentioned.

    Been real bizzy but still intend to get this release out during "award season" just past the World Series.

    In the meantime, it's my understanding that D. Wright's agent are the Levinson brothers, who employ x-Met Keith Miller as David's actual rep. Their agency is called ACES, but I haven't found a point of contact.

    Anyone?

    The Long Island Press grew from the ashes of the Island Ear a few years ago. It's a free weekly, available at several thousand 7-11s, train stations, and grocery stores near you. (Or at least near me.) It's largely drivel, but their album reviews are still okay, and their sports section -- although small -- is not bad. They "played" the 2004-05 NHL season (The Flyers won!) during the strike, and they keep "standings" on hockey fights involving the locals.

    They're the paper who also started the writing career of Amy Fisher, who writes a weekly column. They also helped expose the Newsday circulation fiasco that caused several bigwigs to come crashing down, I believe.
