My guess is Feliciano, simply because of Oliver's ability to go the multiple innings.

I'm all about getting Heath Bell to the majors, but I'm not so sure this promotion was a good idea. We're locked into having 7 relievers, unless the Mets are going to expose Bell to waivers (no chance of that).

We'll cross that bridge in time. Nobody has to get DFA'd It could well be Bell going right down.

Doesn't Bell need to be exposed to waivers to go down? This is his 3rd season on the 40-man roster, and this is year #9 as a pro...

Is that so? I figured they have him up as an inbetween guy like Fortunato, until Gonzalez arrives.

Perhaps he goes to LA at the end of the week for Odalis Perez.

That way, they can replace Sanchez and we can replace Seo, making it a complete zero-sum trade.

Teams get three option years on you. He's in his third, by my guessing.

I think so. If I'm reading Rob Neyer's transations primer right:

]When you hear that a player is "out of options," that means he's been on the 40-man roster during three different seasons, beginning with his fourth as a pro, and to be sent down again he'll have to clear waivers

Bell has been in the majors in 2004 and 2005, so this is definetly his 3rd season on the 40 man.

He's been a Mets farmhand since 1998. Hard to belive, but he's been at Norfolk since 2002.

So I've heard. Welcome back, Heath Bell and the Drells.

I hope Bartolome Fortunato gets another rip. I'd hate to see his season end with a 27.00 ERA.

Meanwhile, Bruce Berenyi's season ended in 1986 with seven starts and a 6.35 ERA. Victor Zambrano's 2006 ended with five starts and a 6.75 ERA.

anyone have any thoughts who'll be exposed for Gonzalez (assuming that's true!).

I'm thinking Matt Lindstrom, Royce Ring or Steve Scmoll.

Edgy,
Bell came up just to be added to the 60 day DL?
Methinks you missed something there.

If anyone goes off the 40, it'd have to be Lindstrom. He's back down in St. Lucie and he still can't find the plate.

well that's what i thought, except he's actually got a WHIP of only just over 1.00 and a tiny era.

Still I reckon at 26 in A+ ball he's pretty expendable.

Jeremi Gonzalez had his contract purchased, 40-man space made by placing Bartolome Fortunato on 60 day DL and getting the TJ surgery.

from what i can gather, fortunato first complained of elbow stiffness just after the beating he was given by the braves last sundayhis option to norfolk was voided and he was hopped on the 15day disabled listnow hes on the 60day and about to have surgery

Anderson Hernandez is no longer on the ML 15-day disabled list and has been officially assigned to Norfolk (he'd been there for the last 10 days or so on a rehabilitation assignment).

Assigned?
I hope you mean optioned.
Assigned in baseball parlance technically means he's no longer on the major league roster.

Bartolome Fortunato has been released.

Not to, you know, beat the dead horse here, but he was the other pitcher acquired in the deal that brought us Victor Zambrano. Looking like the book might be closed on that deal now.

What is your source? I was under the impression that you couldn't release a player on the DL.

Old-Timey Member

That's what I thought too, but the source was the Mets press notes from MLB.com for today's game. Transaction listed for May 21.

Jorge Julio is gone, and El Duque doesn't need to be added to the roster until he joins the team in Florida this weekend. So, in the meantime, Heath Bell is back up from Norfolk.

Jeremi DFA'd already?
Did they let him take a shower before they pushed him out the door?
